Croydon dumped out of the cup by Trojans

Trojans entertained Croydon at Trinity School in the BKA Cup. Croydon were out for revenge after two losses already this season against Trojans. Both teams started brightly with each taking early chances to leave the scores at 3-all after 10 minutes but Trojans managed to edge ahead with goals from Matt and Dave Brooks, a penalty from Carr-Taylor gave Croydon some hope at 8-5 at the break.

Croydon needed to score first to get back into the game but a long shot from Lia Matthews put pay to that and Croydon heads started to drop. Referee Mike Humphries frustrated both sides with some dubious decisions and in the 2nd half he struggled to control the game as constant infringement upset the flow of the game. At 12-6 to Trojans, Croydon needed to try something different and so Steve Jones was brought on for Andy Withers and newcomer Carla Smith for Anneka Barretto. An unwell Matt Brooks was also substituted as the hosts looked to have the game tied up. The Croydon subs injected some steel in the Croydon attack but the other division continued to struggle and Paul Jeanes running battle with Robbie MacDonald finally brought a card for the youngster after a shoulder charge on Carr-Taylor. However as spirirts ran high, the clock ran out and the late introduction of Sarah George for the chattered Saskia de Jager made little difference as a final penalty for MacDonald was the last score as the whistle went 16-11.

Trojans march on and will be pleased to have secured 3 wins this season against their near rivals. Croydon will be disappointed with the performance of some of their players but encouraged by their new signings debut and the return of the mercurial Steve Jones.

Croydon 4 record first win in 2 seasons!

A 7 man Croydon 4 lined up against Bec 3 away. Croydon started with Pat Blake, Andrew Lam, Lean Palfreyman and Debbie Holland in attack with the Pratt family, Becky, Dan and Steve, in defence. They raced to an early 3-nil lead and it was plain sailing from then on. They led 11-5 at the break, job done. The 2nd half was more attritional but the visitors were able to stop Bec from scoring whilst Becky Pratt provided the support for many of Croydon's chances. Final score 15-7. A great result for a patched up team, a girl down and welcoming back Holland and Blake from long lay-offs. The goals were spread amongst the team with Blake and Steve Pratt leading the scoring with 4 each. Long may it continue!
