Croydon send Nottingham packing

Croydon played host to Nottingham at Royal Russell School in an important battle for the lower reaches of the Premier division. The first match between these sides was drawn at 20-all and this game was a similarly close affair.

The first half was especially close with neither side able to build more than a one goal lead. Croydon were edging it slightly but while the hosts missed their chances, Nottingham were mostly taking their's. At half time the teams were level at 9-all.

Croydon started the 2nd half with a penalty from Ross Carr Taylor and Saskia de Jager running in shot and despite a quick reply from the visitors, Croydon were able to hold onto a 2 goal and then 3 goal gap after a long shot from Dave Butters. Croydon continued to threaten but easy chances were being missed. Nottingham called a time out and this seemed to do the trick as Rob Mann scored a long shot and Carr Taylor missed a penalty. Carr Taylor was replaced with 10 minutes to go by Andy Withers. Kim Jones was carried off with a hamstring injury and the teams were soon level at 14-all after a penalty from Mann. However Steve Jones picked off two quick goals to restore Croydon's lead. Some slow, patient play by the next Croydon attack ran down the clock further and brought some chances, Paul Jeanes converting a penalty won by Withers. The clock ran down with the score 17-14.

Croydon needed this win to move them up the table, Nottingham will no doubt be disappointed with the result but on the balance of play, Croydon created more and so will feel they deserved the result.

Croydon 2 fold against Nottingham 2

Croydon started slowly with a dubious penalty and long shot giving the visitors an early lead but a long shot from Dan Pratt and a short one from Withers brought parity. Nottingham though were never behind as some poor concentration from the hosts and some good long shooting helped them to eek out a lead in this low-scoring match. Half time 6-7.

The 2nd half was a poor one for Croydon as they repeatedly struggled with their free-throw set up and took the wrong options in attack. Nottingham weren't much better but managed to stretch away as Croydon continued to mis-fire. Final score 9-14 and no one was sorry to hear the referee's whistle.

Croydon 3 vs Pelham 1

With a starting line up of attack dave smith, patrick blake, rebecca and lorna with defense mick and chrissie moore, lynda and steve pratt we were hopeful for a win!?

We got under way well with newly appointed Patrick opening the scoreboard with a long shot. After that the goals just went our way! Yeah Steve was moved to play 3rds at the last minute and will be pleased he did as he scored 4, goals came from all the team (bar one) so cutting to the chase, steve you have a super 4, pat 2, me 3 (one was a penalty - I did give a penalty back later oops) chrissie 1, mick 2, rebecca 2, dave 2 and due to tiny people pressure leah subbed for me and scored 1 too.
