Woking 1 vs Croydon 3

Last game of season saw us away to Woking, starting in attack were Vernon, Andy, Becky and Mandy with defence Patrick, Mick, Chrissie and me. (Although those were the sections I wanted I did plan to start in attack so that Vernon/Andy would be marking a certain player. But the only time I try to get strategic I got it wrong- der)

Right importantly I must say that I was very pleased to have Patrick and Mandy back in the team, our super supporter Harry and Becky with ankle support nicely played (without further injury too). That also means I didn't quite notice who scored first, I think it was them but then we equalised. Woking then raced ahead by a small amount but good ole third team fought back. The game in nut shell - Andy scored his penalty, Vernon got in a cheeky shot, Micky was on something as he scored 4!! I scored a penalty and did a cheeky goal, Mandy gave a screech at the end and superbly scored, Becky got a goal from her player by coming round her in the feed. Patrick was running left, right and centre we just needed to cut the blokes arms off but Pat was doing good as his opponent was getting really peed off. Chrissie did well at keeping her woman (not a girl) busy and not scoring as she has a good shot.

Right then down to the nail biting end... Woking were ahead, Croydon were catching up - oh yeah - but then when we were behind by one, the ref was asked how much time ("5 mins") and Woking coach shouts oh no that's the end finished. Oh err (our complaint will be going in) the ref said he was in charge but was told he was not. Conclusion we played 2 more minutes, scored to equalise then let the last goal in final score 10 - 9 to woking, sorry guys.

Thanks for all great games and playing see you all at socials, tournaments etc Lorna xx

Bec 3 vs Croydon 4

LDKA Division 1 winners Bec 3 took on Croydon 4 at Graveney School with Croydon keen to prove themselves after the thumping they received from a merciless Bec 3 in the home fixture of this match. Croydon sported first teamers Saskia de Jager and Sarah George but otherwise had the usual mix of 4th team players.

Bec got off to the best possible start with a dubious penalty but a running-in shot from Phil Aish saw Croydon level after 5 minutes. Bec's shooting was superior though and they raced away to an early 5-1 lead before de Jager scored from distance. Bec continued to assert their dominance though and Croydon could only reply with another long shot from de Jager but in scoring she landed badly and had to be carried (manfully) off by captain Steve Pratt so Croydon were down to 7. The situation was not helped by the referee getting caught up the in confusion and awarding Bec a bonus goal. Croydon battled hard the rest of the half but Bec were well on top and went into the break at 11-3 (10-3 with bonus goal ignored).

The second half started with a well taken goal from captain Pratt but confusion reigned again as the referee seemed to be following the home team's scoreboard and awarded Bec another bonus goal! So 12-4 officially, 10-4 unofficially. Croydon heads seemed to drop a little as Bec's long shooting again paid dividends but Jon Dean got himself on the 'board at 15-5 (13-5). Croydon enjoyed a late flurry with Jon Daniels scoring his first goal for Croydon and from down town at that and Steph Robinson snatched a sharp chance from 4 metres. Final score 21-7 (19-7).

All in all a good performance from a Croydon side showing a good team spirit, including clapping the champions onto the court before the match.

Quote of the day to Dan Pratt though: "Phil! Flat passes and loopy shots, not the other way round!"
