Croydon 1 vs Supernova 1

Croydon took on Supernova 1 at Royal Russell school. After the cricket score last time the teams met, some observers might have expected the same but Croydon weren't taking their opponents lightly. The hosts had Gary Heath back in place of the injured Andy Withers but were otherwise unchanged.

Croydon started well with Dave Butters scoring two long shots from distance after some multi-shot attacks but a lapse in concentration let 'Nova in for a running in shot. Croydon continued to make lots of chances but Supernova somehow kept them out before Anna Jeanes scored from distance to give the hosts a 3-1 lead after 10 minutes. Supernova were awarded a slightly dubious penalty after a foul from Vernon Ellis on a forceful Supernovan running in but Butters was all over his opponent and scored from range again. A lapse in the visitors defence then left Ellis wide open, and with Jeanes collecting, he took his chance from middle distance. Another running in shot for Supernova though after Becky Pratt had switched beautifully kept the visitors in the hunt before Butters scored a running in shot. The visitors called a time-out at 6-3. Croydon conceded another free pass but Jeanes blammed the taker to give Croydon a lift. However two more sloppy penalties conceded by Ellis and Butters (the 2nd retaken) brought Supernova back into the game at 6-5. Croydon were comfortable though after Heath scored with a clever fake and Pratt netted a running in shot. Half time 9-5.

The crowd might have expected more from the 2nd half but it was not to be. After a tepid first 5 minutes, Zu Omar made a great move to score a running in shot and the game meandered on for another 5 minutes as Croydon's passing became erratic and balls were dropped. A time-out was called and this seemed to settle them down as Jane Belfourd scored after a drive from Jeanes and then they switched roles for another of the same. In between the visitors had their best attacking spell of the game as they put some shots together but they missed their penalty and only scored 1 from open play. Butters missed a small hatful of shot sharp chances but Croydon's defence was starting to take over as Pratt scored her second running in shot. With 10 minutes remaining Supernova subbed 2 from the defensive section but they couldn't keep out Belfourd as she ran in to score the last goal of the game.

Overall, not as emphatic as Croydon would have liked and they must try to cut out the 1st half mistakes that led to penalties but they were comfortable throughout.

Croydon 3 vs Highbury 1

The thirds had Highbury 1 who beat us last time by a big win, but what was going to happen this time? 1st attack Mick M, Steve Palf, Emma and I leaving defence as Andy B, Pete L, Mandy F adn Sarah M with Phil as sub.

Hands shaken and we are off, well they were as I do believe they scored the first 2! And they had bad sportsmanship!!! We played and passed the ball well and continued playing well just not scoring! With mandy scoring in the first half and I got a running in shot (with a feed from Emma and neither girl tried to mark me?) but hey! half time score 2 to us and more to them.

They just ran you into players but not as in to be free to shot just running and pushing and even taking a shot when the team mate takes out our player! Naughty naughty (I did tell the bloke he was out of order at the end). And another nag, how can I bang heads with the guy feeding the girl, just not korfball! oH and they put me off my penalty by repeating behind the white line and irritated me by getting me distracted and shouldn't. Need new penalty taker..

well second half. Good news Sarah scored her long shot and that was without nagging! Steve and I scored perfect drop offs (well done steve j for getting us to practice those on thurs!) Last goal from Pete but everyone was trying and continuing to play and make an effort. Final score 14 to them and 6 to us. thanks to Andy who came off so Phil could get a run at end.
