Croydon 4 get off the mark with a draw against Pelham 1

Croydon travelled to Epsom College to take on Pelham in a bottom of the table clash. Both teams were yet to win a point and this game was a big opportunity for everyone to kick start their season.

The visitors started with Phil Aish(c), Luke James, Sarah Hole and Julia Johnson in attack, Steve Chadd, Russell Comber, Karen James and Rhiannon Williams-Clarke in defence.

Both teams looked a little tense to begin with, neither were able to string together enough passes to really find space. Pelham had an opportunity to take the lead after Rhiannon was adjudged to have fouled her player whilst running in. Pelham though failed to score from the resulting penalty but soon after they scored a long shot to go 1-0 up. Pelham doubled their advantage with another long shot after Karen had switched to cover.

Croydon didn't let their heads drop and found some momentum in attack, thanks mostly to some great defensive work at the other end. Steve was working well to create space and he made a neat pass to Karen for her to score a drop off shot. Soon after Croydon drew level after Russell found himself unmarked close to the post and managed to bag his first goal for the club.

Pelham were finding it hard to retain possession but still scored a long shot to regain the lead at 3-2. In attack Croydon were looking dangerous and were creating lots of chances, Julia managed to find some space out front and scored from distance to equalise at 3 all.
Soon after Pelham scored a running in shot that could have been called for cutting or defended but neither was given and Croydon were behind again.

Croydon were looking far more confident and were shutting out the hosts well, the extra time in attack was paying dividends and Sarah almost scored after collecting a missed shot, Russell though buoyed by his earlier goal bagged his second with another shot from close range. At 4-4 Pelham were looking nervous, resorting to quick long shots, whilst the visiting team looked calm and in control of the match, Sarah managed to score two great drop offs to give Croydon their first lead of the game at 4-6. Croydon were getting in to their rhythym but were unfortunately stopped by the half time whistle.

After the break Pelham seemed to up their defence and Croydon found it harder to create scoring opportunities, in defence a couple of penalties were given away and both were scored to level the game at 6 a piece.

With 5 minutes to go Croydon were living dangerously letting Pelham in on a number of occasions but they just couldn't find the back of the net. Daniel James was brought on for his debut, replacing his brother Luke, but with time winding down was not able to make a dramatic impact and the full time whistle went leaving both teams to share the points.

Hawks continue their winning streak with victory over Scorpions

Croydon Hawks started their day against Scorpions, having won their two previous games the Hawks carried forward some confidence. Croydon had 3 guest players, Poppy and Megan started in defence with Stephen and Adam, and Emma was helping out Michael, Alex and Ben in attack.

Croydon started well, creating good chances, and thought they had got off to the perfect start when Adam scored but it was disallowed as defenended. It was Scorpions against the run of play that got things underway scoring from short range. Hawks weren't fazed by this though and continued to attack with control, Alex made a great pass to find Ben in space and he duly put the ball in the back of the net. With the scores level again the next goal would be important, it was Scorpions this time who were to feel dissapointed after they had scored from a defended shot.

The Hawks were beginning to put pressure on the home team, intercepting well and the extra attacking possesion paid off, Stephen finding the net from long range twice in quick succession to bring the scores to 3-1. With the change around Croydon carried on with good attacking, Michael doing especially well in collect and helping his team get extra shots.
The full time whistle went before any more goals could be scored and Croydon won their 3rd game in a row.

Hawks snatch a draw late on against Nomads

In the second game of the day Croydon played Nomads, they started with the same section but starting in attack were Stephen, Adam, Poppy and Megan, in defence were Ben, Michael, Alex and Emma.

Croydon started the same as they did in the first game, conceding the first goal to a short shot and again had a goal disallowed for being defended. The game went on for a while with no team being able to score, it only livened up again in the last 5 minutes when Croydon finally grabbed an equaliser from Adam with a long shot. The goal looked like it would earn Croydon a draw with such little time left but Nomads scored another short shot to make it 2-1.

The hawks though with seconds left on the clock went for one last attack with Michael providing a good assist for Ben to score and tie the game, the full time whistle went soon after and Croydon are still undeafeated so far this season.
