New look Croydon 1 take on Notts 1

Croydon 1 made the journey north to play Notts 1 in the EKL. Notts sent out a full strength side, while Croydon were again missing several boys through injury, as well as resting Anna Jeans. However, this was another opportunity for those stepping up to gain valuable experience and make an impact at this level.

As has become too familiar this season Croydon again started slowly, finding themselves behind to some disciplined attack by Notts. Croydon’s defense was managing to apply some pressure and produced several turnovers. However, the attacks struggled to move the ball around and create good opportunities against a much larger Notts outfit. A flurry of late goals by the home team at the end of first half slightly flattered Notts, going in 15-3 up.

To their credit, Croydon did not let their heads drop and came out determined to put on a better showing in the 2nd half. The continued pressure in defense halted Notts momentum as their scoring rate slowed, and Croydon seemed to use this as the catalyst to get themselves going at the other end. As chances started to come, confidence visibly grew and Croydon converted at a good rate. While a comeback may not have been on the cards, it was a much improved 2nd half, which Notts edged 11-8, to finish up 26-11 for the game.

Croydon 4 just miss out against Woking 2

So close yet...

Sections lined up Beckie, Suzie, Brian & David in first attack Angila, Sarah Adam & Johnathan in defence. This looked like it could be Croydon's day as they went into a 3-0 lead, Woking then got one back 1-3. Croydon then scored twice again 1-5 before the half time whistle.

Woking's half time team talk worked wonders as they came out and scored 3 without reply: 4-5. Croydon regained the 2 goal advantage 4-6 but Woking had their tails up and were working the defences in both sections very hard. And another 3 goals followed for Woking: 7-6.

Croydon were awarded a penalty in the last minute but sadly failed to convert it, for what would have been a well deserved draw.
Two new players played today, with Johnathan playing his very first korfball game and both Angela and Jonanthan did exceptionally well. Everyone played their socks off in this one, and the defending at times was outstanding, big WELL DONE!!
