Nomads 3 trounce goal shy Croydon 2

Starting off with Kathy, Dom, Ed and Hannah in defence, and Simon, Johan, Julia and Sarah in attack, goals were slow to begin with.
Then Hannah got us off the mark with 2 lovely long shots, both assisted by Johan from across the line!
Croydon were making lots of chances but alas, converted few, until a running in shot by Mr Chaney, and effortless goal by Simon.
Half time score 10-4 and we were positive that we could catch up.
However, some of the Nomads players have a very good long shot and it was noticable how well they recycled the ball.
Croydon at times appeared to have difficulty playing in the confines of a small hall, with lots of misjudged passes. If we can take one thing from this game, it is how lucky we are to have such a huge hall at Royal Rusell!

Nomads 4 edge Croydon 3

A slight change to our line up but in the hall we know so well as third Sunday playing there. In first attack was the partnership of Mark and Vicky with Charlotte and Martin leaving defense of Ben and Emma with oldies Pete and myself.

Not so sure of scorers this week but we started with the first goal then true to form let one in! Nomads then got the next 3 which included a penalty for not marking the running in shot with the punching hand - I dont know I thought everyone knew that! positive point was it made me go over again with Ben and Emma which hand to use so thanks Mark. I then scored a cheeky running in shot and got a penalty which Pete nicely converted. Some more goals scored left the half time 4 to Croydon but 6 to Nomads eek

We were playing the ball around well, intercepting but think our goals just didnt go in! The game was evenly matched and enjoyable to play and everyone should be pleased as we did try hard. Charlotte put shots up and looked better and like Emma will be more confident in what she is doing. Martin will get in closer to take his long shots if his player is giving him space, Mark and Vicky just carry on, Pete tut tut on turn in feed twice! and Ben lots of shots and scores on the easy step out of the feed!

Everyone tried hard and put effort in I gave MVP to Ben as thought he moved and kept our section flowing although now think Mark did in the other section oh energy to go back and change so Mark you best be available next week, play well and get MPV!!!

New look Croydon 4 see off Nomads 6

Nomads6 7 Croydon4 9 just like the score predictor suggested. What a stunning match for any spectator!! I must start by saying that as far as I am aware 5 out of the team were first time players for Croydon. Kerry, Mike, Wendy, Roger and Jon and what a game to start with. Sections were Becky, Kerry, Jon and Roger in first attack with Julie, Wendy, Mike and David in defence. With Davids' player easily getting passed on a number of occassions early in the match but Mike thankfully doubling up to block his path and with positive moves both in defense and attack it was with graceful precision that Kerry slotted in the 1st goal of the game which was levelled shortly after by Nomads. That was their only success in the first half with defence play from both sections, way and beyond normal, with again Kerry judging to perfection intercepts and Roger and Jon fighting for loose balls and collects along with Becky getting stuck in for good measure. Shots were going up with collects being made the pressure on Nomads began to tell with Roger adding one Mike adding three and David adding one from distance, to the shock of most in a korfball style (thanks Steve all I could hear was RELAX) so 1-6 to Croydon at half time.

The 2nd half was a very hard fought battle mostly in reverse with Nomads sliding in 5 goals without reply, however the defensive play by Julie and Wendy in my section was though and fair making the scoring opportunites for their respective girls very slim, before Becky added another for Croydon, unusually well before the end of the half, Nomads quickly equalled so 7-7. Croydon dug deep with Mike adding a running in shot and Roger his second. Final score 7-9 in Croydons favour. Just a final note on Wendy's attacking stance when receiving the ball, taking up a stork like stance keeping her opponent at bay with the other knee very impressive and effective.

I must thank everyone for their input had it been from the court or from the sideline. Most of all thank you to the five new players all of whom looked as though they had been part of the team for a while. I hope that you are available for other matches.

Just for the record, the scorers were Mike 4, Roger 2, David 1, Kerry 1, and Becky 1. Player of the match close run thing between Kerry and Mike but Mike just got it for number of goals.

Any errors please amend report accordingly.
