Croydon 1 out played by Kingfisher 1

Croydon 1 travelled down the road to Kent to play Kingfisher in the return league fixture. Croydon started with Withers, Mills, Hudspith J and Jeanes in attack with captain Hudspith N, Ellis, Stimpson and Driver in first defence.

Kingfisher used their speed from the start with a beautifully executed running in shot. They followed this up with another goal, and Croydon were 2-0 down without getting out of first gear.

Kingfisher were pressurizing the Londoners' attacks and making it extremely hard to get the right shots away. Ellis did manage to out run his player though and his running in shot sailed through the basket. This was followed up after not much time by a Jeanes' free throw, to put the score at 2-4. It looked like Croydon might be in with a chance ...

It was not to be though. Kingfisher stepped up the pressure and their shots found the basket. They scored the next 8 goals without reply, to head into the half time 12-2.

At half time, Croydon's coach told his team to stay tight on their players, and put pressure on passes as well as shots. Although Kingfisher came out and scored the next 4 goals without reply, Croydon then did as asked and stepped up the pressure. This slowed down the Kent side's scoring, and rebounding, and gave the Croydonites more time in attack.

From 2-16 down and 25 minutes to go, Croydon scored 7 goals, and let in 9, leaving a final score of 9-25. It was a much better 2nd half, but Korfball is a game of 2 halves and the team didn't stay close enough in the first half.

Croydon 3 work hard to win the game

A slightly different line up, and when I said my sections the team all frowned so I changed them! Therefore starting in attack was our usual Ian but paired with Martin (splitting the boys height)with back in the team Charlotte and Kim. Defense was Mark and Vicki with Pete and myself.

Sorry, not organised to ask Owen or someone to keep score so there will be no facts in this report on how the game went, but I was pleased at the end that no one argued on goals and everyone was happy with the number they said they scored or didn't.

I do believe Bec scored first as Vicky came and said Nigel had said for me to mark Annie then we scored so all change. Our attack then scored the next two I think, one being a penalty that Pete converted (Bec's Sean obviously wants to play for Croydon again as he marked me). Overall the game was well matched and everyone was playing hard and flowing, no silly passing and better was good passing to running in feeds from the side as in anticipating where the player was going to be...

Half time the score was 7 - 3, so we were doing well. The plan was to keep going, stopping the bec boys from feeding the girls and giving ourselves more space and maintaining the work rate.

The 2nd half started with us scoring 4 goals very quickly with no reply from Bec. Defence was strong in both sections and we were frustrating the opposition. With us scoring a whole range of goals we increased our lead further, and when I say whole range I mean it - long shots, mid range, running ins, sneaky post shots and penalties. Dont think we scored any free throws or drop offs but I could be wrong. I was tired at the end and think so was everyone else, we worked hard and got the result. Woo hoo go team! My section even scored so quickly I was still returning from the sideline from a drink, they did that twice!

Lots of possible MVPs. Mark was close but went to Pete who was called up for travelling twice at the begining but managed to stop his foot shuffle and score, defend, run, intercept etc etc

anyone feel free to add a fact or two x

Croydon 4 just keep noses in front against Bromley youngsters

After a couple of weeks off, Croydon 4 were raring to go at RR last Sunday.

In first attack were Bryan, David, Julie and Sara(H) whilst in defence were Mike ,Kathy, Jon and Liz, who was making her debut. Sarah and Kathy had already played for the seconds and were under stict instructions not to score too many goals. That didn't stop Sarah who quickly got off the mark with a drop off under the post but after that she played a great collecting game for the rest of the half.
Meanwhile Bryan missed from a free pass but made amends soon afterwards with a shot from distance. At the other end Mike was also controlling the post well and shots were going up to hit the basket and roll around it but not going in... until Liz scored from medium range.

Deapite good defence at both ends Bromley were not going to lie down. Jon was finding his guy a bit of a handful and conceded first a penalty (which Bromley missed) and then a free pass which they converted.
Both David and Julie hit the basket a couple of times but Bromley pegged back 2 more to end the half at 3 all.

The second half was end to end for a while and then Jon got one from the baseline, Kathy converted a long shot and Sarah, released from the post for a while, got a running in shot.
6-3 and daylight at last but Bromley came back again with 2 more goals and it was all getting a little tense. Then Jon finally achieved what he had tried a few times and got past his marker to score a running in shot, making amends for missing a couple of sitters a few minutes earlier.

Great effort from everyone. Liz did exceptionally well for her first game, containing her player well and David played with his usual exuberance. It was good to see the ends working well for each other and making space, although on occasion there was a bit of a melee around the post. People were obviously wanting the ball and calling for it which was good to see... bring on Nomads!
