7's company, but a crowd is better.

Croydon travelled up to Notts for what would be a difficult fixture under normal circustances. However, due to a mix up with timing we were aiming for a 2.30pm game time, but the game was actully due to start at 12.30. As 'luck' would have it, six of the team + coach P Jeanes were there almost two hrs early, and were able to kick off the game with 7 people at 1pm.

This commentator cannot comment on the first half action, perhaps for the best, as he was half way down the M1 at the time. However, our arrival suggested times had been tough, with the team walking off at half time 24-3 down.

It was a case of starting the second half fresh. With the experienced Hudspith pairing now on the pitch, and boosted by having a full compliment of players Croydon set about trying to get something out of the game. It was immediately evident that Notts scoring rate slowed considerably and their shooting % dropped as they came under pressure in attack. J Bedford proved a little too much to handle for Mills and was ruthless around the basket, but overall Croydon kept Notts to 13 in the second half. At the other end Croydon were stringing together extended attacks, and were picking good shots. After rattling the basket with several efforts Croydon finally got a number to drop, making the 2nd half score 13-6, and 37-9 overall.

Overall we made a tough assignment all the tougher, but we can look to take the 2nd half performace into next weeks crucial game vs Bearstead.

Croydon 2 overcome a new look Mitcham 1

Come on seconds you WON! No match report!?

Not sure who started where but the super fours were young (Croydon young) and experienced (polite for ageing) combo of Becky and Susan with Adam and Ross leaving the other section of fitness fans Ed and Johan with Julia and Sarah (need someone to put something here).

Zu, Ian and Steve were all on hand to coach, do stats and shout! I do believe some recording was also done so Zu can see what you players did or didnt do so beware.

Croydon 3 use full effort which pays off

A slight change in line up 1st attack of Emma, Ian, Martin and playing again for us Sam (future Mrs Martin or will he be Mr Sutton?) leaving defense of Mark, Me, Steve (back from injury) and Vicky. On the sideline we had Ben to play the second half, Susan to watch over Steve, Sarah / Julie ready to shout and can we believe it Mr Chadd getting ready for his come back?? of course Owen was present to write the scores on the draws!

Sadly, my girl scored the first goal as I went to switch and the distance was too big for Vicky or I to make up the ground oops! Never fear our attack was working hard, very hard to pass the ball and find space and Martin score, all change.

Our experienced section was passing the ball well even though the opposition was young and athletic and we were awarded a penalty - who else but Steve should get the honour... Yes! but Woking knew how to score too 2 -2 and change again. So Martin was man of match but was close with Mark (hmm think I've had that decision before) Martin scored the next 2 so my section was back in attack and this is where I think the first of our injuries occured. I could blame Steve for the pass but it was me who threw the ball right into Vicky's face (sorry) but as her girl had switched, it was hard and fast, sorry again. Never fear like the rest of the team who fell over Vicky was fine (or just played on). Steve scored a penalty then I got a running in.

Half time looking good of 6 - 2. Subs Steve for Ben and as Sam had a meeting with the bathroom and phlem Julie stepped up Thank you guys.

Woking got a penalty (think Zu wanted to play fair as there was lots of calm down and not nice touching) but Ian after working really hard scored. The boys in our section both scored and both fell over. Back to martin to score then we let in 4 unanswered goals!! what?? I should be able to say something but nothing comes to mind. We were doing what we had been doing all along. Martin had the final goal of the game. We all were working hard, passing, intercepting, scoring, being a team and looking out for each other etc etc
Feel free to add anything I've missed but I do think this was a win we deserved and did fight well! x

Croydon come back convincingly in the second half, but not quite far enough

it being half term with all 4 teams playing it was always going to be difficult to field a team but Croydon 4 were delighted to welcome back Steve P for his first game of the season, while Sue and Becki came over from Trinity where Croydon 2 had just seen off Mitcham Neither Rebecca wanted to play with their Dad so first attack was Julie, Becki, Mike and Jon with Sue, Beccy, Steve and David at the other end.

The first half was all perspiration but no inspiration. Too much running around very tightly near the post meant that chances were limited but nonetheless the basket was rattled a few times. Meanwhile Woking got into their stride more quickly and after a goal-less first ten minutes they got off the mark. They scored several times more with Jon getting the solitary respose from mid range so at half time we were 6-1 down.

Ian gave wise counsel and Croydon went out in a positive mood for the second half. Croydon concentrated on what they were doing well with Becki and Mike being commanding in collect at one end so that the attacks were in several phases with Julie beginning to find some space. At the other Steve was rediscovering his form, David was ferocious in his interceptions and Beccy was dropping off more against a very determined front defender. The goals started to come with first Sue and then Becki slotting them in. Steve took a couple of penalties and managed to convert one. The score had crept back to 6-4 but then Woking added one and so the pattern was set with Croydon scoring but being matched by a return from Woking. Jon had almost a free choice of medium range or running in shots, the collect was so good, and he managed to convert a running in. He then took a penalty, missed it but the ball flew out to Mike who coolly slotted it home. Then Beccy beat her defender from the baseline with a good drop off which didn't even hit the sides. Finally Sue scored with a characteristic long shot.

So in the second half Croydon scored 7 to Woking's 6 and once again we were left with a sense of what might have been if only we could score consistantly. What was consistant was the work ethic with everybody playing for each other which was good to see, so overall another encouraging performance
