The thirds struggle but send Supernova 3 into a black hole

We were the same as last week Mark, Steve, Vicki and myself leaving defense of Emma, Ian, Mandy and Martin. Pete was due to come on at half time and Julie was there if needed and prior to Pete coming Jon / David! and we had people on the sideline to cheer!

Good choice by Ian putting us as first attack as the ball had yoyoed back and forth until Mark thought enough and scored a long shot. I then scored from the collection so left to see what the other section could do! Not bad Mandy still has it (of course) and scored her running in only for us to let one in tut tut. Never mind Steve looking after his knee with gentle jogging, he decided not to run and just shoot probably from the half way line and nicely feed for me and scored the penalty.

The game sounds like it was easy but we did seem to have trouble and we had to work hard! They were very good at putting pressure on when our defense was getting the ball out but all good in the end. Here I'll mention all the penalties as Nigel had said to watch ourselves to both teams! so pens taken by Martin and another by Steve with a comfortable score in half time I said whoever gets pen takes so Mandy took one and then Emma had the call but due to line looking and Nigel quick to be in charge got blown up for taking too long no!!!

ok not to be outdone Pete came on at half time and settled in fine scoring a running in with ease. Roughly the final play of game was Ian taking a free throw which earned him his goal. Mark got MPV for all his scrappy the ball is mine but could've gone to Mandy or Emma who were work horses ha ha no real effort well everyone did, Go team x
Wednesday update, MPV changed to Mandy for having a great game and playing with broken, cracked or just floating bone in her finger! she played on with tape applied by mother Jeanes x

Croydon 4 just get the honours in pulsating match

After 3 weeks of 'what might have been' it was good to get back to winning ways at RR on a cold afternoon. Hopefully the rest of the teams will follow suit but at the time of writing the first's are on court. Croydon were fielding a mixture of youth and experience with Stephen G returning for his first outing for a while and Sarah W (taking advantage of some enforced babysitting for Andy), together with Julie and David as first defence. At the other end were Charlotte, Keri Jon and Mike.

The teams took a while to settle but Jon got Croydon off the mark from under the post, nearly taking it over in the process. A little later Charlotte slipped a free past to the post but Jon could only shoot upwards. Meanwhile I think it was Sarah who had grabbed a couple at the other end. Supernova were not idle and had pegged it back to 3-3 when Charlotte poached one from the restart. It must have been David who got the other because at half time the score was 5-5.

Liz came on in place of Julie for the second half but this did not affect Croydon's style. They were very determined, perhaps too much so because a succession of penalties and free passes were conceded. But the lead kept changing hands. First Croydon were 6-5 up, thanks to Sarah, then Supernova scored twice to make it 6-7, Stephen scored a peach of a goal from distance and Sarah definitely had her shooting boots on with yet another. Croydon in the lead again 8-7. A couple of minutes later they were trailing 8-9. Then Keri turned on a sixpence and found herself in oceans of space, slotting it home from about 3m but better still was the celebration dance. 9-9 with 3 minutes to play and who should coolly plant one in from 5m than Sarah; I think this one did hit the sides, unlike some of the others.

As before this was an encouraging performance with much recycling of the ball and therefore multiple attacks, although they did get a bit frenetic at times. Mike had the measure of his man on many occasions and Julie and Liz both covered well and found space. So well played everyone. Bring on.....Blossom House
