Seven Swans not swimming

This week saw the Swans make the journey to Millwall to face Supernova 4, looking to extend their winning run. Things didn't start well for the Swans as they found out en route that their fourth boy was having transport issues leaving them one short at the whistle. Supernova were also waiting for one, so both teams lined up with seven to start the game. It was Supernova who struck first, just as their fourth girl arrived to complete their lineup. Undeterred the Swans were working hard and despite their numerical disadvantage were placing pressure on the Supernova defence. The first attack three of Wends, Joce and Ben didn't have to wait long as they immediately pegged Supernova back, a nice little interchange between the three worked an opening for Wends to bury a long shot from downtown despite the muted calls of 'know your range!'. Sturge was getting the better of her girl and profited with a cooly finished runner. This was closely followed by a 3 metre finish from Rog after great interplay between Joe and Jess, to leave the score at 3-3. The first half was a ding dong affair and neither side was gaining too much of an advantage. Sturge scored her second of the game after linking up with Rog for the second time allowing her to finish off another trademark runner. After good work from Wends on the floor she scooped the ball up to Ben, who'd found a pocket of space which proved enough to give the Swans their fifth goal of the first half. A frenetic half came to a close with another Swans goal this time courtesy of Joce who beat her girl to score a runner and send the Swans into half time 6-5 up. The Swans started the second half by furthering their slim advantage after Rog scored another 3 metre shot thanks to a lay off from Joe who was working hard to create opportunities in his section, despite having to contend with a physical and experienced opponent. Playing with seven was taking its toll on the Swans and Supernova cranked up the gears and slowly clawed themselves back into the match. With just under two minutes left they broke the hearts of their visitors as they scored two quick goals to snatch the game away from the Swans and take the two points for the win. The Swans can take a lot of positives from today's game, a great battling performance that on another day could have easily ended with a different outcome. Next week sees the Swans travel to Epsom to take on Nomads 6. MVP - Ben, a great performance in tough circumstances.
