Croydon 2 claim more points on the road at Nomads 3

Having claimed their first win of the season the previous week at Supernova 1, Croydon 2 were optimistic about their chances away at Epsom College up against Nomads 3.

With just a couple of changes to starting 8 from that win the team lined up with Ed Chaney, Kim Munro, Simon Pavey and Ren Williamson in first attack; leaving Simon Mills (c), Hannah Robinson, Adam Stevens and Sarah Withers in first defence.

A bright start for Croydon saw the visitors establish a good lead early on, although a number of free passes and penalties kept the pressure on and the score within arms reach. As the half progressed the pattern continued as the Blues worked hard for their shooting opportunities and just as hard in defence to restrict their opponents opportunities.

As the half time whistle went Croydon 2 were happy with their first half efforts, which saw both sections playing a solid game both in attack and defence, however they were still conceding too many decisions. The emphasis was to continue with the way they were playing but to be mindful not to give away any cheap fouls.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, although with Nomads adjusting well and using their experience to prevent as many shooting opportunities the side changed things up, which immediately paid dividends as a minor flurry of goals saw the team push out ahead once again.

A late rally from the home side meant kept the score more than respectable with Croydon emerging on top by the final whistle, with a 19-17 victory to claim their 3rd and 4th points of the season.

A disciplined attacking performance saw CKC 2 take away another victory and with everyone getting on the score sheet it was clear the team performed well at both ends and played for each other. MVP could have gone to pretty much anyone with Stevens and Pavey in particular hard done not to get the away - Withers however had a superb game, scoring 4 but also assisting for numerous goals and offering sound advice to her team mates throughout the game.

This week the Swans were away to Nomads 4. Starting in attack was Ben, Emma, Harry and Jevana. In defence was Rog, Joe, Joc and Clare. The swans started the game very positively scoring two straight away. Ben scored a runner and then Emma scored one too. Nomads responded by scoring 2 to bring it back to 2-2. The game was very tight up until half time with Jevana scoring from down town and Joe scoring from about 3 metres. Half time 4-3.

Swans battled hard during the second half where Ben scored another runner and then Joc and Emma scoring from about 3-4 metres. However, Nomads caught the Swans off guard and final scored ended up being 10-7! Congratulations to Emma for getting MVP.
