Croydon 1 beat old rivals Highbury 1

This was always going to be a tricky game, especially after a nightmare journey over the river.

The game started off fairly evenly, with both teams exchanging goals until half time when Croydon were 6-5 up. The game was still in the balance...........

Coach Steve’s advice in the half time talk was to get a 3 goal lead to fill us with confidence.
So naturally, this is what the team did, taking the score to 8-5 and never really looking back.
It could have been more comfortable for Croydon, had we not missed our penalties, but luckily for us, Highbury weren’t too hot on penalties today either.
Towards the end, 6 goal Luke took a heavy tumble and had to be replaced by Dom, but the scoring continued in Croydon’s favour for a morale boosting 14-8 victory! Yes it wasn't the perfect performance, but a win at Highbury is always well fought for.

The captain of the team came off looking slightly glum though, when questioned as to why when we had won she replied "wait? we won? I thought we lost 14-8!!!". Good to know her head was in the game.

Thanks to all those who stayed to support, helping it feel less like an away game and more of a club day out.

Croydon 1 could not have hoped for a better start to the season! (and yes Kathy- we won 14-8!)

Croydon 2 almost steal a win against Supernova 1

There are many who could and can write better match reports, but as I'm the first to the keyboard, you get my version ... unless and until someone overwrites it of course!!

I can't tell you who scored when, it's one of the many downsides to getting old that I simply can't remember!

I do know that we scored the first 2 goals though, and that they were scorchers. I also know that players in both sections were working hard for each other, following Coach Steve's pre-match instructions, and passing the ball around.

I'm pretty sure we scored the next couple of goals too, which meant that both sections were showing their scoring potential.

Okay so that was the most perfect of starts, and maybe we couldn't quite believe it ourselves because we then started to give away passes and to let our guard drop (not all of the team mind you, some kept up the initial perfectness).

We let Supernova back into the game, and they took the chance with both hands, drawing level and then going into the lead.

With wise words from the coach and captain in our ears, we worked hard to get back on top. As we skidded towards the half time whistle, Referee Brooks told us we had 1 minute to go, so we made the most of it by scoring 2 goals in about 30 seconds, leaving us all square at the break!!

The second half could have gone either way, with both teams being pretty evenly matched. As the match drew towards its end though, it was Supernova who were one goal to the good, so Croydon pulled out all the stops to try to reverse it. Unfortunately it didn't work, and the risks taken meant that Supernova were able to score another 2 goals.

Final score 12-15. A good, well fought game, with some great positives to take away from it.

Particularly well done to newly transfered Tom, who played a great first game for the Croydon blues.

Croydon 4 lose out to physical Bec 3

So here we are, October 1st and it’s the 1st game of the season and I thought I’d start as I mean to go on so offered to wash the kit, but that task was already taken, Ed was very quick to say -“the match report needs writing”.

Usually at the end of the match I know we’ve won, lost or drawn but not necessarily how we got there, so to now compile a match report feels like taking an A level!

We were a strong looking side from the off, a mixture of immense experience and exciting youth. We stood tall and proud and faced the yellow cowardly custards of Bec 3 like a team of Warriors, but they stood taller and dominated collection, it’s hard to collect when some of them are standing on your feet or elbowing you in the ribs and face, oh and did I mention they shot better?

Ok, so we lost, but we never gave up the fight, and it was a constant battle as we were physically battered and bruised by Bec, Alice had to go off injured on her return from injury, so not a great start to her season.

Ed, Bryan and Jon scored 3 stunning goals and Bec scored 18, but none of which were as beautiful as our 3.

Remember Croydon 4, the devil whispers “You can not withstand the storm” and the Warrior replies “I am the storm”. We know who we were today.
