Meet the Manager (Croydon 4) - David Hughes

Croydon Korfball Club are delighted to announce that David Hughes will take over the management of our 4th team this season, replacing veteran Jon Dean.

David takes charge of the 4th team in his 4th season with the club and in the sport, joining after encouragement from Croydon's fixture secretary and former 1st teamer Anna Jeanes. "I played basketball on Tuesdays for Royal Russell, Anna was always here asking… basketball dropped off - I thought what else can I do? Ok… Korfball! Asked Anna so it (my joining) is her fault really!"

Joining Croydon was David's only real interest in Korfball with the clubs venue a key factor and that Croydon's "Very welcoming" nature and the opportunity to have a "Great laugh" making it highly attractive.

Despite an opening week defeat to Supernova 4, David is keen to see the side better its results compared to last season. "I hope we can progress; beat the teams we did last year, more thoroughly and also if not beat the teams we lost (against), to get certainly a lot closer. In general convert a lot more shots to goals."

David is also keen to emulate his predecessor while maintaining a competitive edge. "As Jon said, thoroughly enjoy it. Have a good laugh but good exercise, good enjoyment… but also try to win! The biggest buzz and enjoyment for me last year was doing so well in the first half of the season." All of this while of course remembering the key element to any korfball game especially at Croydon… "What's important? Having fun!"

If there was one thing that David would like to see happen at Croydon would be for the players who don't already to maximise their use of the clubs website and make clear when they can play by using the upcoming match features. "It's a huge problem when people don't, we're struggling around. Are they? Are they not (available)?"

All the best for the remainder of the season and beyond to David and the rest of the 4th team. Keep up with their progress plus the latest interviews, news and developments at www.croydonkorfball.com

(Remember to help make David's job that little bit easier by updating your availability too!)
