Croydon back in the big time

The return to action of the National League today also marks the return of CKC to the top flight of English Korfball, having bounced back at the first time of asking and having recruited well to the squad during the summer, a number of new faces will join them.

Kimberley Munro and Ren Williamson have arrived from Bec Korfball Club, Laura Nicholls joins from Nottingham Uni and Japanese international Marc Brazzill has also joined the ranks.

The club has also signed National League experience in the shape of recent Birmingham star Andy Bovey, who spoke to the CKC website ahead of the coming season.

"I'm very excited to be joining Croydon KC. It's great to move back and live so locally to the hub of London Korfball, with around 8 clubs on the doorstep. But it was a relatively easy decision deciding which club to join. Croydon have always been very welcoming and training with them over the years during the holidays has always been enjoyable and I really appreciate it."

Bovey, whose sister Janine also plays for the club, spoke of the other factors that helped him decide to make the move "I've been really impressed with the overall wealth of experience and commitment, which contributes to a very well run club."

With the news that Steve Johnson has also agreed to join the club in a role as technical coach and assistant to head coach Colin Boys, Andy insists that there is a lot of potential going forwards.

"I've really enjoyed training so far, with Colin, Steve and the rest of the squad. There is a real opportunity at Croydon to develop and improve as a player and there will always be a challenge of competing at the highest level or fighting for promotion."

The Blues start the season by taking on Kent side KV at 5:15pm, at their home venue of Royal Russell, this evening.
