Ron Etheridge

I am sorry to be the bearer of sad news, Ron Etheridge, one of the founder members of CKC sadly passed away on Friday 3rd January 2020. I am sure many the older members of the club will have fond memories of Ron and his wife Olive. For those younger, his sons Brian and Nigel played for the club through the 1980’s

Ron therefore was a teenager when he started playing the ‘new sport’ of korfball. Croydon is the only club he ever played for like his teenage love and wife Olive. Not sure if they met due to CKC or not but current players beware the magic of the club for relationships and children. Both their boys Nigel and Brian played. If Nigel had stayed in the area I’m sure his daughter would play as his wife did. Nigel I think played korfball up North, Brian was only ever a Croydon player.

Ron was always interested in how the club was getting on in competitions after retiring. I’m sure he sat for years on the Committee holding numerous posts and was our overall President. He was extremely sociable with a lovely smile and twinkle in his eye. He’ll be missed dearly by his loved ones and at the annual Golden Oldies reunion in May.

The funeral service is at 2.15pm on Monday 20th January, 2020 at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Crawley, RH10 3NQ.

The family have said all are welcome to attend.
