Croydon 2 stifled in shocking loss to Supernova 2

Croydon 2 travelled to Supernova’s new home venue next to Millwall FC stadium. The majority elected to travel by train from East Croydon than risk getting stuck in traffic. Croydon lined up with Pete Lindsey, Luke James, Zoe Shewell, and Hannah Driver in 1st attack. And Karen James, Julia Johnson (capt), Mark Irving, and Steve Chadd in 2nd attack.

Croydon took a while to get used to the small hall size of only 16 x 32, and Supernova took advantage to grab a 2-0 lead after 12 minutes. Irving stopped the rot with a good dropping off goal. The limited space continued to make it hard for the Croydon team to pass the ball around in their normal fluid fashion, whilst Supernova were far more comfortable with their passing. L.James conceded a penalty, but Driver replied with a medium distance shot. Supernova scored the last goal of the half to make it 4–2 at the break.

The game continued with both defenses on top until Johnson won and then converted a penalty. Into the last 10 minutes of the games at 4–3 down Supernova scored the next 2 goals before L.James scored with a long shot. Supernova wrapped up the game with the last goal to win 7–4.

Croydon were disappointed not to win the game, and especially disappointed not to be able to put into practice all they had been taught at the Dutch coaching sessions for special-guest spectator Dirk.
