Croydon 1 play well but fall short against Trojans 2

A slightly mixed up looking team turned up at Trinity this morning.
With Dom, Luke, Hannah and Kay in attack, it was a bit of a shock to the system for Andy, Adam, Kathy and Becky to take first defence.
The game started at a good pace with Dom getting a sneaky shot from around the post after collecting the ball to give Croydon the lead. Both teams then continued to exchange goals for a short while. After a long spell with no goals from either side, Trojans were starting to get frustrated and called Time Out.
Trojans then started to pull away a little gaining a two goal lead. But Croydon did well to regather themselves and by half time the scores were fairly close-Croydon within a couple of goals.
After halftime Croydon showed some brilliant defensive play-particularly from Luke and his section. But spending so much time in defence took its toll on the section and a couple of silly penalties were given away. Croydon kept battling though and Trojans were never really able to accelerate away with the game.
Becky did well all game and played through the pain.
Andy was looking good around the post until a shoulder injury forced him off.
Luke had one of his best defensive games for Croydon and was unfortunate with a couple of decisions.
Dom enjoyed a good physical battle all game with his player and made several key interceptions.
Kathy continued to regularly cut the feeds, she just needs to put the ball IN the basket >:o(
Hannah had a good game against an experienced player.
Adam battled hard in a new section and was able to give as good as he got.
Kay had another awesome game with another hat-trick – All day long!
Nigel and Annekka slotted in well to the sections when they were called upon.
But, unfortunately it was same old story for Croydon – plenty of chances made but the ball just couldn’t find the basket.
Final score 15-10 to Trojans.

Big thanks to everyone that came to support! It Makes a difference :o)

Dominant CKC3 triumph in early encounter at Petchey

Croydon 3 travelled the long journey to Petchey Academy to take on Highbury 3. In first attack was Annie, Julia, David and Ed and in defence was Ben, Josh, Dawn and Ren.

Croydon 3 were eager to continue their recent winning streak, however Highbury were first to score with a very quick goal in the first 20 seconds. As the ball changed hands, Croydon quickly responded as Ed fed Julia to even up the score to 1-1. Sections switched and Croydon were next to score as Ben converted a running in shot from a lovely feed from Ren. Returning the favour; Ren ran her girl and scored a running in shot fed from Ben. 3-1 to Croydon. For the next 5 minutes, both teams were creating chances but were not able to convert them into goals. However, Croydon were next to score when Annie received contact on her running in shot. David coolly converted the penalty ‘Basketball style' to extend the lead to Croydon 3, 4-1. The final section of the first half resulted in one more goal from Highbury, however the defence of Julia, Ed, Annie and David was so tight, Highbury were struggling to put any shots up.

The half time talk focused on doing much of the same, however just communicating more and mixing up positions.

Second half began and Croydon extended their lead with 2 more goals; Josh got into a strong feed position and Ben ran his player to make it 5-2, quickly followed by a quick turn from Ben which was excellently anticipated by Dawn who fed him to make it 6-2. Particularly impressive performance form Josh in this half who was 'walking the block' even though he said he had 'no idea' what he was doing!

As sections switched, Croydon showed really good patience in attack which resulted in Julia running her girl and calmly slotting in a shot from under the post. Next goal, came from when Ren cleverly picked out a good run from Ben who scored under the post, quickly followed by a shot from 4 metres.

The game was not over as Highbury were continuing to fight and scored the next 3 goals. However, it was Croydon 3 who were victorious as the final whistle blew 9-6. Well done team, a solid performance in attack and defence.
