With a few changes to the starting lineup from previous weeks we saw Nigel, Steve, Nicole and Hannah in attack, leaving Jon, Phil, Kathy and Harriet in defence. Everyone was set out ready to go, expect the ref who didn't have his trainers so was forced to proceed with the game in his slippers! No matter as Croydon got the game going with a textbook turn in the feed shot from Nigel. Supernova weren't going to let that goal last long and scored a mid range goal to bring the scoring to 1-1. Croydon were playing well and Kathy worked well for her running in shot but again Supernova replied with a turn in feed goal of their own. 2-2 and change ends! The next three goals were to be Supernova's, one runner and two penalties! 2-5! With everyone working well for each other and shots going up but not falling it took a bit of time for the next goal to drop, but Phil who was playing a little one handed scored a great goal from mid range 3-5 and another change of ends! Half time was fast approaching and time wasn't on Croydons side but Supernova gave away a penalty which Nigel stepped up and scored with ease. 4-5 and half time!! The team talk during the break was to keep up the hard work and play at a pace that they are comfortable with. Second half started well with the ball being worked round but it was Supernova that scored the next three goals, during this run of goals Croydon were awarded a penality which Phil stepped up to take.... quickly removing his wrist support, he stepped up, took a deep breath...... it went too high, but Phil tried to win it back but a long pass out to the other end prevented, 4-8. Everyone was putting in a valiant effort. Nicole, who was winning collect after collect, had to come off with 15 minutes remaining as she was having some trouble catching her breath. Hope she is feeling better soon and gets her voice back in time for the next game. Croydon didn't let this hold them back and Nigel scored his third goal of the game, a beautiful long shot. However Supernova replied with a mid range goal, penalty and a runner.... score 5-11. Wanting more goals and working hard for each one, Nigel scored a mid range goal followed by a well taken penality 7-11. Supernova again replied with a mid range goal. End of game was not far away and Jon, who had worked so well all game scored the final goal of half to bring the score line to a close of 8-12. Everyone played so well and should be proud of themselves. Thanks to Kathy and Hannah playing in their first of two games. Steve pushed his experienced player to his limits. Phil did a great job even with an injured hand. Nicole pushed herself to the edge and held on for as long as possible before coming off. Nigel was on fire and couldn't seem to miss! Jon never stopped and was fighting for every loose ball. A special mention to Harriet who played really well, was putting up shots and never gave up! MVP goes to Harriet but I'm unable to select on the team just yet. Onwards and upwards to the next game!!!
