Croydon thumped by Invicta

Croydon played Invicta at a dusty Cronwallis School in the BKA National League. Croydon started this match with Nigel Hudspith in for the delayed Ross Carr-Taylor and were in touch briefly at 1-all. Invicta quickly pulled out a 5 goal lead at 6-1 before Croydon came back into it with penaltes from Dave Butters and Paul Jeanes and a running-in shot fom Saskia de Jager. From here though Invicta never looked back and amassed an unassialable 14-5 lead at the break.

Carr-Talyor replaced Hudspith at the break but there was little change in the scoring as Invicta scored at will with Croydon unable to stem the tide. Some long shots and penalties from Jeanes were the main highlights in an another otherwise forgettable half for Croydon. Final score 26-10

Croydon 2 beaten by Invicta 2

Croydon 2 took on fellow strugglers Invicta 2 in the Reserve League with Invicta fielding notorious bad boy Robbie MacDonald for his first game since suspension. Invicta and, indeed MacDonald, dominated the opening exchanges as they raced to a 5-0 lead and an 8-2 lead at half time with only Grace Stimpson and a penalty from Nigel Hudspith registering for the visitors.

The 2nd half started the same as the 1st with Invicta on top and with miscreant MacDonald continuing to try the patience of referee Peter Allan. After a number of final warnings, Allan went for his pocket but fortunately for MacDonald changed his mind and the stop-start game continued. It was not clear whether this activity upset the flow of the home side but a late flurry of goals from Matt Cook and Dan Pratt helped restore some pride for the visitors with Croydon ending up drawing the half 7-all. Final score: 15-9.

A confused croydon 3 took on northdowns 2 at Royal Russell. Confused as we were the away team so didn't get to be on the right side. Starting in attack Vernon, Dave, Angela and Jane leaving defense as the Moores (I checked with Mick that he was ok to play with Dan, forgot about Chrissie) and me.

As usual someone scored first, it could have been Vernon but he missed ssso so many (and I mean many) shots during the game I maybe wrong. The game seemed well matched and with Dave Bond keeping northdowns in touch for too much touch and Smithy and Vernon told off for shouting 'party' when in attack!! all was well. Half time score was 3 to them and 5 to us with a 'crucial penalty' as Vernon put it for us just before the break.

The game had all the excitment penalties, blams, injuries (well done Angela for playing on), plus the stay on the ground (hmm who would that be for?) and the usual running around, not that many dodgy passes. Needless to say shots where put up, long ones seemed to be missing the basket and Mick reminded of the movie when the basketball player gets covered in the opponents body sweat (as the man was liking him) ps here that at half time ref changed so not really contact called up but croydon as contacty maybe as northdowns! Chrissie was running around but never getting the final pass, dan worked the post and his player (hope his knees are ok) and I got my ears screamed at when I took a shot.

Other section was throwing the ball around nicely, coachie needs to practise his penalties hmm, but he scored last week we hear him cry, Jane and Angela coped with switching susie and vernon as I had shouted missed shots that andrea would have scored but he got his blam in.

Ok back to the chase final score was 4-7 hmm now if we had 5 at half time yeah that meant we won, cool, goal scorers Jane 1, me 3 (1Pen), Vernon 2, Smithy 1. Next week is a home match but I might make everyone stay in our little corner for good luck! bye Lorna xx
