Croydon 2 in the Cup Croydon 2 took the long trip up to Edinburgh to take on the city team at the Crags Sports Centre. Sadly logistics got the better of Supernova so Croydon played a full hour against the local Edinburgh side in a repeat of last season's 1st round fixture in London. Croydon had the best of a low scoring first half going into the break at 4-6. And they raced to an 4-8 lead soon after but then things started to go wrong as Edinburgh pulled themselves back into the match and eventually levelled at 8-all. The final whistle went and the golden goal rule came into effect. After Lynda Barker out-collected a tall Dutchman, captain Hudspith found himself all open a-midships under the basket though and slotted home to secure the win and progression to round 2. Job done. Wildcats 1 vs Croydon 3 For the first time ever this was an attempt at a strategic layout to match the Wildcats! Andy was to mark Steve Jones and first time playing for Croydon Pete being good and tall was to mark Steve Barker! This went ok bar Steve chose to mark Simon and lucky for our defense they only had 3 players to mark. Sorry for Wildcats who had injured boys, but much I'm sure to the delight of Dave who quick thinking decided to mark the post. Ok, down to the facts of who scored and how the game unfolded..... for that you would need someone else to be writing this report!! I think they scored the first two goals or maybe more. In our teams defense it was everyones first time at playing with the new baskets, blah blah excuses excuses. What we needed was Mandy to open Croydon up and show that we can score yeah! I think Andy also scored in the first half and half time score may have been 6-2 I must add that the Jones' were helping with some on pitch coaching for my sections newer recruits! (Steve B don't be reading this). Simon was to come off at half time for Jon Dean, who nearly took Steve out and Becky had a good ball snapping with the girl who replaced Kim, bring on that aggression! Pete for his opening game did everything and very well but didn't score! Dave chose to stay with the post so he wasn't allowed to score! Mandy got another goal and Leah scored. Our section could hear Dave in control with very good talking etc etc Andy scored 3 in the end, lovely long shots and where was Harry to shout 'That's my dad!' you'll just have to do it all again Andy. He got 2 when the other boy was off injured so maybe if short of opposition he gets to work harder (ha) and I scored two and one was a very lazy cheaky shot but hey they all count! Final score we lost 14 to 8 but I think we all enjoyed it and should be proud x.
