Croydon 2 vs Trojans 2 Croydon 2 took on Trojans 2 at Royal Russell school with Zu Munshi, Nigel Hudspith (c), Lynda Barker and Becky Pratt in attack with Vernon Ellis, Paul Jeanes, Julia Johnson and Sarah Withers (in for the injured Becky Tobitt) in defence. Trojans started the game with only 6 players but were soon joined by more recognised 1st/2nd team faces. They got the game under way with a simple drop off followed by Withers conceding a penalty. However Jeanes replied in kind with a drop off before Trojans scored a long shot. Despite Croydon's goal, Trojans were well on top at this point and scored a flurry of goals to race to a 1-6 lead. Withers atoned a little with a well worked running in shot but Trojans were fluid in their attacking and were clearly concentrating on drop-offs. This proved effective as they continued finding the basket. Croydon called a time-out and eventually this seemed to have some effect as they started coming back into the game with 1 penalty from Jeanes (won by Withers) and 2 from Hudspith (won for himself). The half ended at 5-10, a fair reflection. Jeanes scored a very well worked long shot to start the half and for a time it looked like Croydon might get back into it but Trojans kept finding the net, again in the form of drop-offs and despite a free pass from Barker and a drop-off from the otherwise subdued Hudspith, Trojans kept their lead to above 4 goals. Jeanes then scored a "round house" running in shot to get the crowd going and a time-out was swiftly called at 9-15. Munshi gave Croydon a lift after the break with a long shot but Croydon weren't learning their lesson and Trojans continued to exploit short sharp chances from behind the post. Leah Palfreyman came on for Pratt for the last 12 minutes and scored a cheeky one under the post as the visitors got confused about changing ends and Withers scored a long shot but the come back never quite came and Croydon paid for the damage in the first 10 minutes, as the whistle went at 13-18. Trojans are a good prospect on this basis and with this team and are likely to be well up there come the end of the season. Croydon scored well on the new posts but weren't able to stop their opponents from scoring for most of the match. Croydon 3 vs Woking 1 Well the thirds had to play Woking 1 at home. Lucky for us our team didn't have any changes from last week! Amazing! But would it pay off..... oooh I can't write the match report yet cos I got to get it out... WE WON! YEAH BABY AS OWEN SAYS... Starting in attack was Andy B, Joe F, Becky D (who had pointed out on Thursday she had never won - until now) and me. Defense Mick M, Pete L (who finally registered, well done), Mandy F and Leah P. Croydon 3 started well against a new look Woking team winning 3 penalties, sadly though Andy Burnham and Lorna Elliot missed the first 2, before Burnham rolled one in. A further penalty from Mickey Moore and then a long shot from Pete Lindsey gave Croydon some early control of the game and as stalemate threatened to reign for the rest of the half, Joe Furlano scored from distance to give Croydon a 4-1 lead at half time. Woking missed a penalty themselves in the 2nd half but captain Elliot scored a running in shot, followed by Mandy doing likewise. Woking scored a long shot and a penalty but it was never enough as Leah and Mandy had their players in the bad and Mick was in control and fishing under the post. Pete was letting his guy put up his long shots as they were not going anywhere and it just was super. Don't know why we didn't score more as playing was good. Lots of running by all, hopefully everyone enjoyed it, thanks to those who watched some. Croydon 4 vs Supernova 3 The 4ths welcomed back Steph Robinson after some time out and she started in attack with Paul Andrews, John Dean and Zoe Shewell with Phil Aish, Simon Mills, mental Rhiannon Williams-Clarke and Becky Dean in defence. Within 2 minutes Supernova where a player down but they returned within a couple of minutes. Both teams lacked attacking prowess and it took 12 minutes for the first goal to come: Zoe scoring a long shot. Sadly Rhiannon caught her finger and sat off the rest of the half. 20 minutes had passed when Croydon scored their 2nd goal of the match with Paul getting free from his player and scoring a long shot. Supernova replied with a running in shot to close out the half. 2-1 Rhiannon returned at the start of the second half but Supernova drew level from another running in shot. With the scores level Croydon seemed to drop their heads and play went Supernova's way but with the new baskets working in Croydon's favour keeping out Supernova's shots. Half way through the 2nd period John Dean was involved in a collision and broke his glasses, unable to see John was replaced by coach Dan Pratt, but despite a renewed vigour it was Supernova who edged ahead scoring 2 quick running in shots. The rest of the half was tough with Croydon's attack failing to create oppurtunities and chances being missed, however defence did well shutting out Supernova's attack with good interceptions but it all was in vain as Croydon's attack did not pose enough of a threat leaving Supernova to finish the game victorious. MVP goes to Paul Andrews who posed the biggest threat in attack and had a good game at the other end of the pitch.
