Croydon 4 bounce back after half time to claim 3rd in leagueCroydon 4 had their last game of the season today against Bec 6 who they had trashed 10 nil earlier in the season . I only arrived at half time but the ends were Sarah, Julie, Bryan and Alex (playing his first full senior game) with David, Keri, Ben and Charlotte at the other end. Towards the end of the first half Bec were leading 3-2 with Bryan and Sarah (from a penalty) being our scorers-nice to see a penalty being scored for once. Then the Bec wonder kid Billy Ashby got one from distance to make it 4-2. Charlotte nearly responded immediately afterwards but was adjudged to have been defended. The second half had Croydon raring to go, egged on by their 2 supporters, myself and Emma. In the first attack they recycled the ball 7 times and in the next attack 4 times -that ball just wouldn't go in! The next attack Ben took entirely on himself, missing and collecting twice before his 3rd effort went in from close range. David was picking up a lot of loose balls and from an interception got a good running in shot. Then Alex turned about 4m out and as the ball arced through the air it was obvious it was going to be his first goal for the club. 5-4 to Croydon!!! His Dad was not to be outdone and then scored his own from 4m. Everything just seemed to be going right when Ben repeated his one man act by missing the running in shot but collecting and scoring on the turn. But then Keri should have scored but as the ball was going into the basket some Bec player barged into the post to send it spinning away. At the other end Julie and Sarah were pretty well matched by their players so their chances were limited but they defended so well their opponents had no shooting chances themselves. So with 10 minutes left Croydon were cruising to a victory but then Bec scored. And then they scored again to bring it back to 7-6. Nothing is ever straightforward! Bryan came to the rescue to score his third from 4m to steady the nerves and so the final score was 8-6. Well done 4ths- a deserved win to finish 3rd in the league. I would have given MVP to Alex but the site wouldn't let me so sorry Alex you will have to share it with your Dad!
