Croydon 2 Post really well against Nomads 3.After playing their first senior games last week, Matt and Stas were needed in the second team, both played extremely well! Sections were Abi, Char, Paul and Stas then Alex, Ben, Kay and Matt. I do believe Nomads started scoring from the off with Croydon trailing behind. From the sidelines I confess to thinking Nomads are going to win easily but I was wrong.... In both attacks the ball was being recycled, shots put up some going in but misses hitting the basket and generally collected by Croydon for a second shot. I do believe Char might have shot collected her miss and tried again and a third time to the crowds and her frustration! Pleased to say Abi scored as she was throwing up teasing shots but her goal thoroughly deserved. Alex and Kay both scored and Ben in a rush from a change gave beautiful pass that Kay slotted home only to have ref say no wait for whistle. Paul falls into category of near misses but did succeed. Stas scoring ratio must be better, ditto Ben who did have to come off but allowed new coach super sub to score against his previous club. Matt not on the score sheet this week but super keeping to his player with solid defense. Croydon 3 Cruise into a winOn a super sunny October day to have to play inside, Anna our star, managed to get a team out with one guest, to play against Trojans. Starting in first attack was experienced Hannah with youthful Liv and first time playing, hopefully more to play, dad Carl with guesting Callum. Defense was sister and brother act of Rebecca and Christopher with mum Sarah and dad/grandad Jon. The first half was full of thrills. Sarah started Croydon goals with a very quick fired mid shot against experienced Dawn. Not to be outdone Hannah scored and Jon after a naughty foul stepped up for a penalty and slotted it in comfortably. Jon was fouled again as Rebecca was beautifully free for runner so she had to step up to the spot, next time just sink it like you do in training! The half time score I believe was 4 to 3 but Croydon with sharp defense from all players looked eager to continue into the second half. The passing around was good and balls were being intercepted. Everyone looked tired but ready to play on. Second half without the supply of subs Trojans were using let Chris score after all his hard effort of keeping the post. Definitely an improvement in Chris post work, I think he is even jumping higher and timing it correctly to win the collect. Sarah scores a running in shot getting past her player and full control with the release as if she's been doing it for years! Callum sunk a long shot and was swopping from feeding and collecting to keep the ball moving. Rebecca front of basket mid shot straight in as her defender was too slow to move with her. This week Liv was pushed and challenged but took it like water off a ducks back and as for Carl.... Hopefully thoroughly enjoyed and eager to play more, he moved into space, energy of whippet and even shots up hitting the basket! Really enjoyed watching new and old players mixing together, smiling enjoying playing and ending in a truly deserved win. I decided MVP to Sarah as working hard to keep up so experienced player and scoring. Though all 8 must've travelled over full court and caught and thrown on target balls.
