03Mar02: Bec 2 v Croydon 2 In this re-arranged match played at Croydon's home ground, Bec were boosted by the returning Richard Crabbe while Croydon used Andy Withers to leave Paul Jeanes coaching. Bec looked to be a touch shell-shocked by Croydon's quick start as they grabbed a 3-1 lead with some well taken opportunist goals. Fast and furious could describe the first half as Croydon tried to sprint clear of a talented Bec team. Bec's girls, Sarah Stalker in particular, were quick and nimble and took their chances well. Croydon kept up with them however with Jenny Lee-Jacobs, Croydon's player of the match, scoring some smart drop-offs and Withers converted a couple of first half penalties. The sides took a well-earned break at 10 a piece. Croydon's scoring dried up in the 2nd half however, whilst Bec continued their steady progress despite Crabb being well marshalled by an excellent performance from Ryan Dring. Croydon were never able to close the gap however and, despite some late goals, ended up trailing by 3 at 18-15 at the final whistle. Croydon's coaching team will be pleased with the spirited performance however after an atrocious 4-0 scoreline after 35 minutes in the original abandoned fixture between these sides some weeks ago. Bec's reserve team showed their superior all-round strength and many of these players will be pushing for a first team place next season.
