26Mar02: Trojans v Croydon

In the first team's final encounter of the season they met a youthful Trojans side at Trinity School. Croydon started brightly and contained Trojans well but too many missed shots from both teams led to a tepid first half with the half time score 6-2 in the visitors favour after some well taken goals from Ivan Aquino.

In the 2nd half, matters improved quickly with a flood of goals from Croydon with little reply from the home side. All Croydon players bar Anna Jeanes troubled the scorers. Steve Jones took 4 with a series of trademark one-handed drop offs to take his tally for the season 2 goals shy of the 100 mark in competitive matches.

Ryan Dring was a 2nd half substitute for Aquino as the latter's back injury continued to plague him. With the match won, Trojans put together some neat moves and took their chances well pulling back 3 or 4 goals in a row at one point with Matt Brooks leading the scoring, however the result was never in doubt. Croydon won 17-11.

26Mar02: Trojans 2 v Croydon 2

This 2nd team meeting preceded the 1st team clash and a fine and entertaining match was played for the neutrals and any Croydon supporters. Trojans fans would have enjoyed the game somewhat less. The reserve side were on tip-top form and with Trojans missing a few personnel, Croydon leapt to an immediate 5-1 goal lead with Jenny Lee-Jacobs scoring an early brace of medium distance shots.

Trojans' marking of the men in particular was atrocious and between them the Croydon boys amassed 15 goals in the match. Neil Paterson was making his first 2nd team start and was clearly revelling in the time and space as he sunk several early one-handers.

The match continued in the same vein throughout with all visiting players making the scoresheet. Jennie Allen grabbed her goal and was replaced by cousin Amanda Furlano, who had a comfortable match and scored a running-in shot under pressure. However it was Ryan Dring, Jenny Lee-Jacobs and Paterson who stole the show with 16 goals between them whilst barely breaking sweat. The final score was 11-24.

Croydon enjoyed their goal fest but little can be gained from such matches bar shooting practice. Trojans need to dig deeper into their squad and to perhaps bring in younger players as enthusiasm would have easily overcome any inexperience in this fixture.
