Croydon KC3 4 v 21 Mitcham KC3 The third team had a difficult first match, against a strong Mitcham 3 side. The home side started well though, trading goals with Mitcham and never letting them get far ahead. This was the first time that the Croydon players had played together, and this began to show as the half time mark approached. Going into the break the score was 5-3 to Mitcham. After the break, Croydon faded as the Mitcham side scored shot after shot, pulling ahead, and never looking back. Whilst there were some good moments from Croydon, there simply weren't enough of them, and the greater experience of Mitcham showed through. Plenty to learn for the home side, but also plenty of potential to improve. Final score 21-4 to Mitcham. Team: Chris, Steph, Amanda, Lorna, Mike, Daniel M, Neil, Greg D. sub: Daniel P Croydon KC4 6 v 3 Arsenal The first outing of the indoor season for the Croydon 4th team, saw a selection of familiar and not so familiar faces turn out at Royal Russell on a blustery Autumn afternoon. With the team all present and raring to go at the alloted time, there was a slight issue of no opposition, or referee! This was explained though when it was heard that all the opposing players had turned up at Trinity by mistake, and had to reroute to Royal Russell, no mean feat considering none of the players had a car! The game did eventually get underway though, and Croydon soon pushed their advantage by taking an early lead. Newcomer Helen, played her first game, after only 2 training sessions, ably assisted by the more experienced Rich, and the even more experienced Karen. Steve Pratt completed the section, looking just a little tired, after working the night shift, and only having a couple of hours sleep. Up the other end, there was a return to competitive matches for Dave Smith, working with regulars Judi and Nadia, supported by Dan Pratt, who missed out on a third team place after not being at training the previous week. The team pulled together well, and the result was never in doubt, despite some questionable shooting, which saw shots that really should have gone in, agonisingly miss. Shot of the day probably has to go to Judi, who managed to score from what looked like a cross between a penalty shot and a cross court pass!!
