Croydon KC 31 v 9 North Downs KC Croydon entertained struggling North Downs with an largely unchanged team from the one that thumped Tottenham out of the cup the previous week, with Kim Jones returned from injury to replace newly injured Anna Jeanes. North Downs have been short of a few keys players all season and this showed as Croydon stormed to a 5 goal lead with goals Steve Jones and Sarah George. North Downs fought to bring themselves back into contention after 10 minutes with the scores at 6-3. However this was as close as they came to overhauling Croydon as the hosts turned on the style and never looked back. Croydon's men in particular stood out with some well taken long shooting giving Ivan Aquino 4 goals before half time as they stretched to an 18-7 half time scoreline. Croydon coach, Ronald van der Bunt, will have been pleased with most of the attacking play but conceding 7 goals in the half will not have pleased him overly. Indeed North Downs average result this season has been a 25-10 loss so at half time Croydon did not have the correct balance between attack and defence. This balance was righted in the second half as Croydon conceded just 2 goals throughout as North Downs were over-run. Dave Butters had been substitued early in the 2nd half for Andy Withers and despite an early penalty to North Downs Croydon's controlled attack continued with goals from all 8 players, Steve Jones leading the scoring again with 8 goals. North Downs will have to pick themselves up from this defeat and continue fighting if they are to avoid the drop this season, whilst Croydon have proved that relegation must be a distance worry given their last few outings. Whether they can produce similar displays against "the big 3" remains to be seen but it could be that an upset is on the cards in the New Year. Final score was 31-9 to Croydon. S Jones (8), D Butters (2), I Aquino (7), R Crabb (5), A Withers (sub, 3), K Jones (1), S George (3), J Johnson (1), J Collier (1) Croydon KC2 27 v 3 Kingfisher KC2 Croydon's reserve team welcomed back Jennie Allen from another fitness problem as they played host to a Kingfisher side from Kent made up of juniors and the odd veteran. Croydon's players well clearly up for the match as they raced to a 9-0 lead with goals coming almost at will. Paul Jeanes looked back to his best with some classic long shooting rounding off some well worked moves. At the other end, the boys were making hay as Nigel Hudspith sped past his opponent to seal a couple of running in shot chances. The half continued in the same vein with Kingfisher able to find the net from their more experienced girls. Junior Dan Moore made the most of his chances ending the half with a simple running in shot to make the score 16-3. The 2nd half was a at best tepid affair for 15 minutes as Croydon struggled to put the ball in the basket while their defence never looked like conceding. The patience of the sparse crowd was sorely tested but eventually Jennie Allen took a further running in shot and the scoring was kick-started with goals from Lynda Barker and Jeanes. Croydon will be pleased with their defence however, not conceding at all in the 2nd half. The final score was 27-3.
