Trojans KC2 10 v 11 Croydon KC2 Croydon 2's impressive season continued away at Trinity School against a determined Trojans, as they secured a fairly comfortable win. With no 1st team fixture this weekend, both teams had the chance to field three 1st team players if necessary to get the win. Croydon were without the experienced pair of Paul Jeanes and Julia Johnson and so brought in Sarah George and Andy Withers. Joining them were junior Daniel Moore and Lorna Elliot. Jennie Allen, Nick Collier, Nigel Hudspith and Mandy Furlano made up the other section. Trojans fielded a team boosted by a couple of first team regulars but resisted bringing in the bigger guns. Croydon looked better prepared and more focussed at the start and soon raced to a 3-6 lead with goals from Withers and Allen amongst others. Croydon maintained this lead but were unable to build it into a sizeable advantage. The 2nd half started in familiar fashion but Croydon soon appeared to tire as their passes went astray and their attacks broke down. Trojans took advantage of the chances they found and slowly reeled the visitors in, despite crucial goals from Elliot. However Trojans never quite made up the gap and with a time-out with 2 minutes left, Croydon only had to play out the time to claim a victory. This they did as Croydon's attack kept the ball well and worked a good chance for Allen. She was unable to convert under a crowded post but the visitors resolute defence held out, conceding only one more goal as the whistle blew. Although making it hard for themselves in the 2nd half, this result should cement the Croydon's 3rd position in the league, which is very creditable given the chopping and changing of the team to cater for injuries and absentees in the 1st team throughout the season.
