Trojans KC1 8 v 13 Croydon KC1

Croydon warmed up for their BKA Cup final meeting with Invicta next week by comfortably defeating Trojans. Neither team had anything but pride to play for in terms of the League placings, although Croydon were keen to exact revenge for allowing Trojans to snatch an unlikely draw in the earlier meeting of the two. Croydon were hampered by the late arrival of Ivan Aquino, who fell victim to that old English trick of "moving the clocks forward", although he was allowed a little extra time to prepare by virtue of the referee Peter Allan being delayed - not, we would hope, for the same reason.

As they have done several times recently, Croydon got off to a strong start, this time to lead by 0-3 courtesy of goals from Steve Jones, Paul Jeanes and Dave Butters. Jon Bracey smartly converted a shot from behind the post, but Jones extended the lead with two penalties. Jeanes conceded a soft penalty, converted by Dave Brooks for Trojans, while shortly before half time, Butters and Kim Jones extended the lead to 2-7. Trojans struggled to create chances throughout the half - one division was relying on veterans Stella Hooker and Nora Goodridge to lead the attack, but were thoroughly rebuffed by some robust defending by Jennie Allen and Alison Rotheram.

The second half started with Trojans coach Rob Williams appearing to be warned by the referee for a vigorous presentation of his opinions. Perhaps his players had been on the receiving end of the same thing at half time, as Trojans did show more enterprise in attack and scored three of the next four goals - interspersed by a Butters goal from a Steve Jones intercept and long pass, as well as a Butters missed penalty. Any nerves were settled by Croydon then scoring four consecutive goals, before falling victim to their habitual last ten minute lapse, as Trojans scored three more goals. Too little, too late, for them though, and Steve Jones scored his sixth goal to give the watching Great Britain coach some food for thought.

Kwiek KC2 8 v 23 Croydon KC2

This was a comfortable victory for Croydon who continued their recent good run of form. Once again the goals were shared around the team, with Richard Crabb (5) and Andy Withers (4) leading the way, as Croydon proved to physically strong and dynamic for their young Kwiek opposition. Croydon stormed into a 10-2 half time lead, although at times this did flatter them as one division in particular played rather frantically - the tempation of running-in shots sometimes proving too much. The second half looked to be much of the same as Croydon took their lead out to 21-4, but like their first team, suffered from a lack of discipline in the final part of the match. Much to the home crowd's delight, Kwiek scored 4 of the last 6 goals, which on a glorious sunny day somehow seemed appropriate as both teams ended the season on a high note.

Croydon scorers: R Crabb (5), S George (2), J Johnson (3), N Hudspith (2), N Collier (3), L Elliot(1), A Furlano (3), A Withers (4)
