Mitcham v Croydon With Nottingham losing to Bec the day before, this game was academic to Croydon's final placing but this is an important game for both sides with local rivalry a major factor. Mitcham were without Steve Green and Karen Sparrow whilst Croydon fielded an unchanged line-up. Mitcham started the brightest, earning themselves a 2 goal lead but after 10 minutes Croydon were on the board after a Steve Jones penalty won by wife Kim. However Mitcham kept taking their chances and kept an even 2 goal lead for the first 20 minutes of the match. 2 goals from Dave Synott and another from John Perrot helped them pull out an 9-4 lead and Croydon's heads started to drop. Croydon replied though with the next two goals to go into the halftime break still in the match at 9-6 down. The away side got off to the best possible start with another from Jones but the game then reached stalemate as neither team managed to score for the next 15 minutes. Both had their chances, not least a penalty missed by Croydon but it wasn't until Mitcham coach, Colin Boys, was awarded a red card (after a Sarah George shove on Carly Holness went unpunished) that the game sparkled into life. Goals finally came from Carly Holness and John Perrott to send Mitcham further ahead. The goals flowed in from this point with both sides suddenly finding their scoring touch as defences lapsed. With 5 minutes left, two goals from Saskia de Jager gave a battling Croydon some hope with the score at 14-12 but in a frantic last 3 minutes, goals from Synott and Perrott sealed the game's fate in favour of Mitcham. Mitcham's winning streak continues but they were given a real test by a resurgent Croydon team. Certainly in the middle of the 2nd half when neither side could score and only 2 goals between them, the game could have gone either way but Mitcham's boys proved too strong as they scored 12 of their team's 16 goals.Match Report by Andy Final Score: Mitcham 1 16 vs 13 Croydon 1S Jones (6)I Aquino (1)D Butters (1)R Carr-Taylor (1)P Jeanes (0)S de Jager (4)K Jones (0)L MacKay-Elliott (0)S Withers (0)A Jeanes (0)Submitted by Andy on 29 Feb 04Mitcham 2 v Croydon 2 Croydon 2 started this match with a vastly different team that beat their arch-rivals earlier in the season. Only 4 players survived from the first encounter. The first half of this game was a torrid affair with 6 goals scored by both sides - the home side taking a 4-2 lead into the break. The break saw more work for the scorers but Mitcham continued to stifle a somewhat unfocussed Croydon attack and with no boy subs available the loss of Dan Pratt saw Mitcham capitalise on their numerical superiority. Despite 4 missed penalties from Mitcham (a hat-trick for the hapless Dean Woods), Mitcham were able to put their visitors to the sword, eventually winning 13-7. Mitcham roll on but this loss puts an end to Croydon 2's title hopes for this season. They will be keen to capitalise on their improved form next season.Match Report by Andy Final Score: Mitcham 2 13 vs 7 Croydon 2N Hudspith (2)P Jeanes (2)D Moore (1)D Pratt (1)M Carvey (1)L Barker (0)J Johnson (0)S Withers (0)A Furlano (0)Submitted by Andy on 29 Feb 04Supernova 2 v Croydon 3 Croydon took a strong side to Latchmere but some late arrivals did nothing for their start as they succumbed to an early 4-2 deficit. Supernova managed to get to a four goal lead with the scores at 8-4 but Croydon put in a late rally but the visitors couldn't stop their opponents from scoring and time ran out with the home side 10-9 to the good. A poor result for a Croydon team that on paper should have beaten their opponents but Croydon conceded goals at the wrong time and paid for some second half indiscipline.Match Report by Andy Final Score: Supernova 2 10 vs 9 Croydon 3A Withers (3)N Collier (2)C Etheridge (1)M Moore (0)L Burney (1)T Kentfield (1)B Sinclair (1)S Robinson (0)Submitted by Andy on 29 Feb 04Bec 3 v Croydon 4 With only 5 Croydon players and a borrowed player from West London, this was always going to be a battle against a Bec 3rd team.
