Croydon vanquish Woking Croydon 1 entertained LDKA Premier division's Woking 1 at Royal Russell school in round 2 of the BKA Cup. Woking won convincingly against Croydon's third team last week so revenge was in the air. Croydon got off to a flying start with two goals from Dave Butters. Ross Carr-Taylor, back from injury, was also quickly on the score sheet with a running in shot but a lack of concentration from Ivan Aquino gave the visitors a running in shot which they scored to make the score 3-1. From then on it was plain sailing for the home side as they racked up a further 12 goals before half time to leave the match all over at 15-3. The second half was a similar affair although Croydon took the opportunity to practice their long shots as their running-in hosts had already had a good going over! Goals were spread around the team and Zu Munshi and Anneka Barretto both made their debuts for the first team coming on for 15 minutes in the second half replacing Aquino and Julia Johnson. Both made solid debuts but failed to find the net. Final Score: 26-3. All in all a good day at the office for Croydon. Let’s hope that next week against Mitcham the goal scoring continues. West London went into a 2-0 lead but the smiling Steve Barker soon began to rue his decision with Croydon coming back strong to lead 2-3, this then became 3-3 and again Croydon stepped on the gas with great attacking and equally great defending to finish the half 3-7 up. The second half continued in the same manner with Croydon running out 7-11 winners. Even with a comfortable lead there was an air of desperation in the last 10min as Dan Pratt realised he had up to then failed to score, having laid down the gauntlet at the Christmas do, that if he failed to score he would shave his hair off. Shooting at every opportunity the basket was battered but the ball would not just go in, there was desperation in the last 2 minutes, even the old Steve Jones trick of letting you opponent score to change to attack failed, and Dad Steve is appealing on his behalf if he can have a lighter sentence, and just have a nice neat hair cut (the jury is out!!!)
