Croydon miss out against Trojans Trojans entertained Croydon at Trinity School. Croydon were out for revenge after Trojans secured a 2nd half shut-out earlier in the season and an easy win. The visitors were slow off the mark though as only penalties from Paul Jeanes and Ross Carr-Taylor were scored in reply to Trojans 5 early goals. Both sides were mis-firing as chances were missed. Croydon's Dave Butters turned in the feed to score his side's 3rd goal but Croydon were to struggle with the Trojans' male attackers all day and the brothers Brooks helped themselves to some scores before Robbie MacDonald joined in. Half time: 8-5 to Trojans. Saskia de Jager gave Croydon the perfect start to the 2nd half with a drop-off goal and goals were traded for the first 10 minutes, however the hosts pulled a crucial 5 goals ahead with further scores from MacDonald and a clever inside pass into Dave Brooks for an easy lay up. A de Jager free pass and long shot and penalty from Butters brought Croydon back into contention but Trojans weren't finished and a final Butters penalty was only a consolation. Final score: 15-12. Croydon started well enough with a free pass and one hander from Andy Withers but from then on both teams struggled to put passes and chances together. The 2nd half was much the same. Withers limped off to be replaced by Dan Pratt but despite a late flurry of action, almost single-handedly by Zu Munshi, Trojans were able to hold onto their lead and scraped home 8-7. Zzz. However these were Croydon's first points of the season as Trojans fielded 1st team player, Lia Matthews, throughout; let's hope this belatedly kick starts the Croydon 2 season.
