Edinburgh City 1 versus Croydon 2 in the BKA Cup Edinburgh City must have been disappointed to have made the long journey down to London to play in such a hall as Latchmere but they adapted well enough and the teams were working each other out in early exchanges. Croydon were playing their long game and this paid early dividends as Paul Jeanes, Grace Stimpson and Anneka Barretto netted from distance early on. Edinburgh were still in the match though as their girls converted 3 running in chances against Croydon. However despite a late penalty for Edinburgh, 2 goals from Andy Withers and a running in shot from Sarah George gave Croydon a 6-4 lead at half time. Edinburgh scored a crucial early goal in the 2nd half to bring themselves back into the match but from here Croydon relaxed into a patient long shooting game and scored the next 5 goals without reply as Croydon's boys found their range. Some sloppy play allowed Edinburgh some consolation scores but, in a short match such as this, Croydon were coasting now and 2 sharply taken goals from Lynda Barker sealed the win and progression into round 2. Final score 14-8 leaving the final match between Supernova and Edinburgh as a dead rubber. Croydon started well with a long shot from Sarah George but were soon pegged back as Supernova took their chances too. Despite a goal from Nigel Hudspith, the teams were soon level and the Croydon team took a time out to refocus their minds on the task in hand. The remainder of the 20 minute half was a dull affair with neither side able to find the net and the score at half time was a lowly 2-all. Croydon started the 2nd half more purposefully and, thanks to 2 goals from Paul Jeanes, were soon 2 goals ahead. From here they never looked back as 2 further goals from Andy Withers, one a penalty earnt by captain Lynda Barker, gave the visitors some breathing space. Supernova netted a penalty but a neat runner from George secured the win for Croydon. Final score 7-3.
