Supernova 1 vs Croydon 1

The 1sts travelled to Latchmere to take on Supernova 1 and the room chosen to take the team talk was to Zach and Oscar's liking as the best place for it was a creche. With it looking more and more likely that Grace was going to be late, Croydon took the decision to start with 7, the team of 3: Becky, Ingmar and Gary started in attack with Zu, Dave, Anna and Jane in defence.

Croydon took an early lead with Becky Pratt, in for Sarah Withers, scoring a long shot. Croydon seemed to struggle in attack with 3 players and the lack of goal scoring oppurtunities let Supernova equalise. With 4 in attack Croydon were much more comfortable with Dave and Zu working particularly well together creating space all over the pitch. It paid dividends as Zu and Anna got on the score sheet 3 - 1. Ingmar managed to find space for a running in shot and after a stop in play, the delayed Grace came on. The extra player in attack let Croydon open up and Ingmar buried a long shot. Supernova seemed to be confused about a Croydon restart and left Zu completely unmarked 2m away from the post, Zu remained composed and needed no second oppurtunity to get his second of the game. Goals from Dave and Becky took Croydon 8 - 1 up, Supernova pulled one back just before the whistle. Half time score 8 - 2 to the visitors.

The break saw a subsitution with Pete Teague taking over reffing duties from Paul Jeanes who kindly stepped in at the start of the match. The half time talk from Dave inspired Croydon and they came out and scored 7 unanswered goals, a lot of good post work from Dave meant that Croydon had plenty of time in attack, Supernova didn't give up and scored again before Croydon piled on the misery with goals from almost every player in a blue shirt. Supernova managed to get another bringing the scores to 4 - 21. A late flurry from Croydon including 2 long shots from Anna meant the full time score was 4 - 24.

Croydon will be pleased with the score and with every player (except Grace) scoring it shows no lack of attacking abililty.

Croydon 4 vs Bec 4

Croydon got under way after waiting for the 3rds to finish their game, in first attack were Phil Aish, Jon Dean, Carol Allen and Zoe Shewell, Bec were playing short in defence and Zoe took on the role of shooter. Croydon started well and it was only a couple of minutes before they scored.

First defence were Simon Mills, Rihannon Williams-Clarke, Lynda Barker and stepping in for the under-the-weather Paul Andrews was Dan Pratt. Soon after Croydon went ahead, Dan Pratt gave away a penalty which Liam Clarke stepped up and converted. A penalty won and converted by Dan Pratt brought the scores to 2-1, soon after Simon Mills won a penalty and Dan Pratt handed over the responsibility and Simon duely put his chance away, 3-1.

Carol Allen had a great game under the post dominating even with pressure from the dropping boys which gave Croydon numerous shots in attack and the team benefitted scoring twice to swap ends. Dan Pratt scored a drop off to bring the scores to 6-1. 5 minutes from half time Jon Dean was brought down and suffered an injury, he carried on for a couple of minutes but it was obvious he couldn't play on, due to Bec having 2 boys and 1 girl and Croydon having 2 girls and 1 boy Simon was sent over to play in the other section after it was agreed by both sides and the referee.

The half time whistle blew with Croydon leading by 5, after a team talk Croydon set off knowing they had to carry on the way they started. The attack struggled to create oppurtunities with 3 players and Dan missed a few good oppurtunities to leave the defence with work to do, they proved they were up to it with interceptions from the boys and Carol Allen teaching everyone how to rebound. Dan managed to get one to go and the defence was relieved. With time coming to an end the arrival of Steve Pratt meant that the team were back to full strength and the defence stopped any attacking play from Bec. The attack closed out the game with another 2 goals, the full time whistle blew and Croydon came off the pitch pleased with themselves and deservedly so, they dominated at both ends with many oppurtunities created and in defence shutting out any danger, Bec only managing to score from the spot.

If Croydon can continue to shut down teams the way they did against Bec they will go on to be very successful this season.
