Supernova 2 vs Croydon 3

Croydon 3 had Supernova 2 starting in attack the regular 3 of Leah, Mandy and Mick M with (persuaded on Saturday to play) Dan M! (Oo anytime Daniel you are welcome). Leaving in defence the regular 2 of Joe and I with new to Croydon dutchie Sarah (I hope you enjoyed your game) and pulled from the 4ths Phil (and he looked at home).

Right the bad news is we went 2-0 down and then 4-0 eek, what was happening? I will put it down to us having an additional warming up time as the next 3 goals were all scored by us leaving half time score at 4-3. Better but still not great.

Second half, a serious Mick told me we need the next goal, 'oh gowd' I thought but hey I do believe Joe scored on second touch so back to our starting attack. By now with everyone warmed up the goals were flying in without problem (Leah had about 2 disallowed and so did Phil). Dan was all over the court and most of the time in the air as well. Joe tried to take out the post but funnily enough it stayed upright. Mandy did two classic long pass over the head for Dan to score running in shots, oh if only they were all that easy. Phil if it was gun shooting I would say he was trigger happy but it did get him goals. Sarah for her first game scored a longish shot.

It was fantastic everyone scored and the whole range of shots (although I enjoyed the last game more, when we lost, if that makes any sense). Final score 12 to us and 7 to them woo wee

Bec 4 vs Croydon 4

Things got off to a bad start as Becky Dean and Rhiannon were running late and Croydon were considering starting short or playing the on-looking Becki Pratt, fortunately both girls turned up and Croydon started the game with Dan Pratt, Simon Mills, Zoe Shewell and Rhiannon Williams-Clarke in attack leaving Jon and Becky Dean, Zu Munshi and playeing her first game Karen James.

Croydon got off to a good start creating a lot of oppurtunities with the defence shutting out Bec's attack, Zoe and Rhinannon were both beating there opponents with ease but just lacked a bit of belief to make them pay. Chances were going missing though and after 5 minutes the scores were still the same. A great pass from the half way line by Simon Mills into the run of Dan Pratt and he converted to score the first goal of the game, Dan returned the favour a couple of minutes later with Simon scoring a runner.

Croydon continued to dominate and Karen was fouled to give Jon the chance to put more distance between the teams, unfortunately the ball trickled out and Bec won the rebound. A couple of attacks later and Becky Dean was defended by a boy so Jon stepped up to take his 2nd penalty of the game, with the added pressure of a Bec player shouting from the other half about how he'll miss Jon showed his cool and sank the penalty to leave the scores at 3-0.

Croydon continued to shut out Bec on the attack and a couple of blams from Dan kept the teams spirits up, Zu Munshi who spent the most part of the game in an assisting role took a running in shot and scored a couple of minutes before half time. Bec struggled to create oppurtunities and Rihannon stuck to her atacker and won a few defended decisions. The half time whistle blew and Croydon went into the break with a clean sheet.

With the 2nd half under way Croydon continued in the same fashion with Rhiannon getting away from her defender only to have the ball rattle out of the korf, Simon attacked well and managed to bag a couple of running in shots to make the score a comfortable 6-0. At this point Croydon seemed to relax in defence a little bit and Bec started to get shots away, Croydon's attack though continued their hard work and new girl Karen was running her girl over and over, Bec though had picked up on this and had a girl switch every time Karen was through, she must have fallen asleep though as Karen was able to find the net twice in quick succession from running in shots. Bec's chances hadn't been taken but they seemed to be bouyed by the home crowds cheers and encouragement and scored twice to bring the scores to 8-2. Croydon's defence were beginning to get complacent and a couple of uncontested shots cost them their clean sheet. Attack found an answer though and Dan scored a carbon copy of his first, Bec though had the last word managing to grab another before the full time whistle.

Although the score line was not as definitive as it was the last time the teams played Croydon will take a lot away from this game, Rhiannon was getting shots up and getting very close, Zoe was beating her player time and time again, Simon has found some form scoring 6 in two matches and an impressive debut from Karen gave a taste of things to come. Becky Dean also had a good game keeping her attacker quiet and creating chances for her team mates and Jon, seeming to win every loose ball, is a huge asset to the team. A big well done to all the team and let's hope they can continue their winning ways into the next game.
