Croydon 2 lose to Kingfishers 2

Croydon 2 travelled to Kent to take on Kingfisher 2 but ended up sitting outside the wrong hall for a long time before confirming the actual venue.
With all 4 cars in convoy they managed to make it to the right hall with 5 minutes to spare, but thanks to Kingfishers clash of kits they had to find their away strip, this bought Croydon some time to warm up properly.

Slightly delayed, Croydon set out with Dan Pratt (c), Pete Lindsay, Karen James and Julia Johnson in attack, Adam Champion, Ben Hale, Grace Stimpson and Lynda Barker in defence.

Kingfishers started brightly, their extra time to prepare seemed to help them in the opening stages, Croydon looked shaky in defence and this made it easy for the hosts to race in to an early 2 goal lead. With the switch Croydon were attacking more fluently and it benefited Champion as he scored a neat drop off shot to get Croydon off the mark.

Croydon couldn't get to grips with Kingfishers attack, they wavered again letting Kingfishers score 3 this time without reply, the hosts were pulling away midway through the first half.
It took a lovely long shot from Hale to get the visitors back in it. Kingfishers though scored again to restore their 4 goal advantage at 6-2.

With time winding down in the first half Croydon began to attack better with Johnson beating her player, but it was Lindsay who grabbed a vital goal with a good drop off shot from a Pratt assist meant for Johnson. With only a minute left in the half Kingfishers failed to score and James found Pratt running to the post, he slotted a drop off shot away with only a second left to end the half with the scores at 6-4.

Half time came at the wrong time for Croydon as they were clawing Kingfishers back. At the restart Kingfisher pulled away once again scoring twice to go back in front by 4. At this point both teams stared to find their range and it opened up the game, Johnson benefited from this managing to round her player to score a running in shot.

Kingfisher replied soon after to maintain their 4 goal advantage, Stimpson chipped away at the lead with a good drop shot but once again Kingfisher replied to leave the scores at 10-6. Kingfishers changed to a rebound defence but confusion in the feed area left Pratt wide open and he comfortably scored from mid-distance. Johnson was once again giving her player lots to think about and after getting free from her player was fouled, only a free throw was awarded but as James was fouled trying to return the ball to Johnson which resulted in a penalty. Pratt stepped up to the spot and cooly put the ball away to bring Croydon to within 2 at 10-8.

Kingfishers though weren't about to go away they started to slow things down frustrating the visitors. It paid off as they managed to bag themselves another goal. Croydon's attack was beginning to work well and they pulled one back when Barker was left close to the post, she just doesn't miss those chances. Croydon managed to get the lead down to one shortly after with another long shot from Pratt to leave the scores at 11-10.

Kingfisher though continued to create chances and once again pulled away just as Croydon looked to be getting on terms. With 5 minutes left in the game the next goal was always going to be vital. In defence Pratt anticipated James's attacker getting past her and took up a position to stop this happening with tim eto spare, the attacker though decided to take the shortest route to goal, through Pratt, the referee decided that it was a penalty. Though when Pratt questioned the decision telling the ref that the girl had run through him, the ref decided that a booking was called for much to the disgust of the captain.

Kingfishers put away the resulting penalty and the game was effectively over at 13-10. The visitors though were determined to carry on though and with time winding down Champion who opened Croydon's scoring also ended it with another good drop off shot to leave the scores at 13-11.

West London 1 see off Croydon 3

Well we all traveled with a buddy (Andy with family supporters Harry and Sam), Mick and Sean, Paul and Becky T (nice to see you to see..)and Mandy, Becky P and I.

In first attack was Becky P, Mick, Mandy and Sean leaving Andy, Becky T, Paul and I for defence. Silly us let the first goal in but what a super attack as Mick scored from distance. Game on, or maybe not as our section couldn't score. I missed an easy under the basket not a defender in sight and it went on from their for all of us. Becky did drop off with no goals, Andy and Paul both trying (yes very trying... ha ha). Defense must have let two goals in but as soon as they got into attack, maybe even the second catch of the ball, Mandy turned from the feed and GOAL. Thats the way to do it, do I think they were bored from defense?

Again our section let a goal in, not sure how they had jumpy boys collecting all but hey thats collecting. Anyway with my section in attack and not being able to score it was stale mate at 6 -2 half time. Oh and well done for Becky P as she had the only player who loved to touch and not in a nice way.. but never fear their section was looking good and flowing beautifully. Sorry our section I was a rubbish waster! But there was redemption in Sean who got a running in shot and mid range, yes!

Notice here that means all 4 goals from the same section (ouch) all 8 of us were putting shots up so were free but they just wouldnt go in. More practice needed! and the final part is Paul scoring for our section woo hoo (see we do need you)

Final score 8 to them and 5 to us. No match next week otherthan friendly on Saturday for those interested xx
