Croydon 1 lose to Kwiek 1Croydon travelled to Kwiek knowing a win could take them up to fourth, Croydon started with Nigel Hudspith, Vernon Ellis, Anna Jeanes(c) and Jane Belfourd in attack, Grace Stimpson, Zu Munshi, Dawn Aindow and coach Dave Butters in defence. Both sides started strongly, Croydon went close with a free pass from Jeanes, on the other end Munshi was causing his attacker problems, despite Munshi clearly defending his player the shot was not penalised and it ended up opening the scoring. Kwiek doubled their lead soon after with a long shot to leave the scores at 2-0. Croydon were finding chances but were unable to finish them, firstly Munshi went close after faking his defender and then later he missed narrowly from a mid-distance shot, Butters though had the chance to open Croydon's scoring from the spot after he was fouled taking a running in shot, he stepped up and cooly slotted away to close the gap. Kwiek countered Croydon's tough defence by upping the tempo and it started to find spaces, they managed to score two quick goals firstly with a fast paced running in shot and then after a good passing move they managed to get close to the post for an open shot to give them a 4-1 lead. Croydon changed their controlled attack and looked to play as quickly as the hosts, unfortunately the faster pace started causing Croydon to make mistakes, Ellis had a chance but his effort hit a low support bar and they lost possesion again. It took a moment of inspiration for Croydon to score, Ellis recieved the ball in the feed and quickly turned and fired off a shot to bring Croydon to within 2 again. Kwiek though were not unsettled and they continued to attack with pace, this freed up players all over the pitch and led to more goals, two long shots the first Hudspith could not do much more about and the second after Ellis slipped on the dusty floor. Croydon were still having problems with the low hanging support and both Hudspith and Jeanes managed to hit it taking long shots. Croydon were struggling to keep possesion and it was putting the pressure on the defence, eventually leading to a mistake from Stimpson that gave the home side a penalty, after much time was spent adjusting the post they managed to slot away from the spot to leave the scores at 7-2. Munshi was continuing to give his player much to think about, winning another defended decision and it seemed to bouy the offesive end as Belfourd assisted Hudspith for a good running in shot. Both sides had slowed down their attacks and it seemed to suprise Croydon when a sudden burst of speed left Hudspith's player free for an easy runner to give Kwiek an 8-3 lead. This proved to be enough for Butters to call a time-out, this gave time for the visitors to refocus and it did just that as Munshi almost scored a running in shot straight away, Butters found Stimpson running in with a cheeky through the legs bounce pass but the resulting shot narrowly bounced out but Stimpson was not to be denied as she buried a long shot to bring the scores to 8-4. With the half drawing to a close both teams were rushing in attack to score the final goal of the half, it was the hosts though that had the final say with an under the post goal after butters was slow to react to the pass. After the break Croydon slipped back into forcing their attacks, losing possesion on too many occasions which piled pressure on their defence, two long shots from Kwiek put them further in the lead with the scores at 11-4 and Croydon were slipping away. Belfourd was doing her best to keep out Kwiek and despite her attacker being defended three times in succesion no decision was given, the hosts were still finding holes in Croydon's defence and another goal came from leass than a metre from the basket followed by a middle distance shot after Munshi had tried to intercept the ball and couldn't get back in time bringing the scores to 13-4. Kwiek continued to attack with ease and looked like scoring on every attack, they did just that with a long shot and then again with a shot from behind the basket after Jeanes' pass was blocked to leave the scores at 15-4. Croydon looked out of the game and this seemed to relax the attack, they were moving the ball better and creating more chances, Butters put up a long shot despite there being no collect but luckily it fell through the basket to get Croydon's first goal of the half, Kwiek responded though with a neat drop off to bring the scores to 16-5. Butters was doing well rebounding in defence giving the attack more time, the added time meant Croydon could work more chances and it paid off when Belfourd raced past her player to score a running in shot. The hosts though were unrelenting and scored to quick goals to put Croydon further behind at 18-6. Another great running in shot from Belfourd gave Croydon another goal but it was Kwiek who closed the game out strongest scoring another two unanswered goals to leave the scores at full time 20-7.Match Report by Sicknote | Updated by Andy Final Score: Kwiek 1 20 vs 7 Croydon 1D Butters (2)V Ellis (1)N Hudspith (1)Z Omar (0)J Hudspith (2)G Codd (1)D Aindow (0)A Jeanes (0)Submitted by Sicknote on 27 Jan 08Croydon 2 beat Kwiek 2Croydon 2 took on Kwiek 2 in the hope that they could do better than their 1st team mates. Croydon finally started to see some results from the chances they had when Jeanes scored from a free pass and then Elliot scored from mid-distance to level the scores at 3-3 but Kwiek once again went ahead with a long shot. Croydon though rallied and Pratt found Lindsay free after drawing both players for an easy mid-distance shot which Lindsay had no problems in burying to level once again. Croydon then took the lead for the first time after Jeanes scored from distance to leave the scores at 5-4. Croydon went further into the lead when Hale burst past his player to score a good running in shot to give the visitors a two goal lead. Kwiek though were not in the mood to let the game slip away and replied with 2 goals of their own to once again level the scores at 6-6. some good attacking play lead to Kwiek becoming frustrated, they gave away another free pass and Jeanes bagged his third to give Croydon the lead again at 7-6. It was the hosts though that closed out the half strongest managing to level the scores once again to leave the team going into the break at 7-7. At the break coach Dave Butters gave the side an inspiring talk which seemed to get Croydon to perform at there full potential, it wasn't long before croydon had the hance to take the lead after Butters burst past her player only to be fouled, Pratt stepped up to the spot and put away the chance to once again put Croydon in front. Kwiek at this point were struggling to find a way through Croydon's tight defence but a lucky shot from distance brought them level again at 8-8. With the change around Adam Champion came on in attack for Ben Hale. The game became a very edgy affair with both sides doing well to keep the other out but James was not about to let the game go stale and buried a shot from distance for her first goal of the season. Soon after she scored a wonderful drop off shot only to be denied by a dodgy defended decision, no matter though she gave Croydon some breathing space with another long shot to put a big dent in Kwiek's hope of winning. It proved to be the turning point as Kwiek looked deflated, the visitors took advantage of this Pratt buried a shot from distance and then assisted Butters who scored to give Croydon a 4 goal lead at 12-8. At this point Croydon were dominating and Pratt was winning decision after decision as his player was being far too physical. This gave the attack plenty of time to create some chances and it was substitute Champion who benefited scoring from a lovely drop shot. With time winding down Croydon had the chance to further the scoring after winning a penalty and Champion stepped up to convert without a problem. The full time whistle blew and Croydon came away 14-8 winners. Croydon will be grateful for their win as the first half proved difficult for them but can go away happy with every player on the score sheet including substitutes.Match Report by Sicknote Final Score: Kwiek 2 8 vs 14 Croydon 2P Jeanes (3)D Pratt (2)P Lindsey (1)B Hale (1)A Champion (2)K James (2)E Butters (1)A Furlano (1)L MacKay-Elliott (1)Submitted by Sicknote on 27 Jan 08Croydon 4 beaten by Pelham Final Score: Pelham 2 10 vs 6 Croydon 4P Aish (2)P Jeanes (2)P Andrews (0)S Pratt (0)S Hole (1)B Sinclair (1)Z Shewell (0)R Williams-Clarke (0)Submitted by Sicknote on 27 Jan 08
