Croydon started with Paul Jeanes(c), Adam Champion, Emma Butters and Lynda Barker in attack, Julia Johnson, Mandy Furlano, Ben Hale and in his second game of the day Sean Fellows in defence. Trojans got off to the better start creating chances with ease and it wasn't long before they were off the mark scoring from mid-range after a mix up between the girls. They could of gone further ahead from a free throw but their plyers were too close together. It didn't chage anything though as they scored soon after with a running in shot to make it 2-0. The visitors went further ahead scoring two more goals firstly with a long shot and then from a free pass as Barker over commited. Croydon had a free pass of their own soon after though and when Jeanes was fouled taking the free throw Croydon were given the oppurtunity to get off the mark from the spot. Jeanes stepped up and as always confidently slotted away to bring the scores back to 4-1. Trojans had a penalty of their own after Fellows committed a foul, but they couldn't convert from the penalty spot. Croydon had the chance to punish Trojans mistake but wasted possesion with bad passing, the visitors took full advantage and scored a runner to make it 5-1. Croydon weren't the only ones struggling, referee Ian Buckle also had trouble tying his laces and had to stop the game for a while to fix the problem. After the game restarted Trojans continued to dominate and Furlano was on the recieving end of a blam. Coach Dave Butters had seen enough and called a time-out to rally the hosts but it had little effect as neither side could score before the half time whistle. Croydon were again in trouble soon after giving away another penalty but once again were let off as Trojans missed from the spot for the second time. Trojans had more to worry about as they had a girl down injured, she continued for the time being but went down again shortly after unfortunately for Croydon the referee stopped the game just as Johnson scored and the goal didn't stand, Trojans were forced into making a substitute with the injured girl unable to continue. Croydon hadn't learnt their lesson and gave away yet another penalty, Trojans found that it was third time lucky scoring from the spot to make it 6-1. Trojans had another girl inured but fortunately this time they got up and were able to carry on. Furlano was working her defender hard and finding space well, she was rewarded with a goal, scoring from distance to make it 6-2, the resurgence didn't last long though as Trojans continued to score with ease. they scored with a drop off shot and then again soon after with a running in shot. Croydon were looking tired and after Hale took a running in shot only to be defended he took out his frustration on the ref turning the air blue and was lucky to escape without a caution. Trojans were not disrupted and scored three more goals, a long shot and an easy runner were followed by a free pass to leave the scores 11-2. Croydon fought until the end managing to grab a conselation goal as Butters found Barker with a lovely pass and Barker scored a great drop off shot to end the game with the scores at 11-3.Match Report by Sicknote Final Score: Croydon 2 3 vs 11 Trojans 2P Jeanes (1)A Champion (0)S Fellows (0)B Hale (0)L Barker (1)A Furlano (1)E Butters (0)J Johnson (0)Submitted by Sicknote on 13 Mar 08North Downs 2 sent packing by Croydon 3The thirds had North Downs 2 and as Smithy had nicely put it we needed to win, no pressure then! I decided to go for experience in the team so starting in attack was Sue (there is no such word as retire when thinking about korfball), Becki T (just call me if you need me), Steve Palfreyman (I can do that) and Dave Smith (second team player) and were they a good attack? oh yes they were, scored first! Defense was Becky P (you choose which girl you want), Andy (I can run for ever), Greg (I've played for years as started young but work weekends) and I (who chose the slower girl ha), and were we a good defense? oh yes we were. We also had supporters of Harvey and Daddy and the double duo of Owen, Harry, Callum and Sam who when reminded to change the score they kindly did. Both sections were playing the ball around beautifully with no real bad passes that I can think of. So then let's talk about the goals. I think Dave started with a "I listen to my coach" drop off and maybe then could've been Sue's running in shot. Our section was working well with Greg seeing Becki open and with speed she came running in, only problem she passed to me oops. We had a few of those but all working together as with the other section. Becki T did get her drop off the back, which Smithy did again and I duely copied. Steve and Greg were the jump to intercept kings. Becki was I will work for the penalty and Andy you convert it. He did get a running in shot all from his own work as he and Greg were using the feed. Best was that we were always ahead and enjoying it as I think we were a well oiled machine. Final score 8 to us and 4 to North Downs but we did better in the first half. Crodon started the brightest creating numerous chances but could not find the back of the net and were punished soon after as West London scored two quick goals to start them off 2-0. Croydon had started with 3 in defence as Rhinannon was running late but 3 minutes into the game she was able to join in to complete the side. West London went further ahead with a long shot and Croydon were slipping away. Despite looking the better side Croydon found themselves unable to score despite having the most chances. West London had the chance to go further ahead after a contraversial penalty was called on Sean, justice was served though as they failed to convert from the line. The hosts though did go 4-0 in front with a running in shot that had suspicions of travelling but the referee didn't agree. West London had another penalty as Sarah fouled her player taking a shot, they didn't miss this time and went 5 goals in front. Croydon were still looking to get of the mark and should of had 5 or 6 goals of their own but the ball refused to go through the korf, good collections from the attacking players gave Croydon good possesion but they just couldn't score. With the half winding down Croydon relaxed a bit and left a player free and they scored from distance to leave the half time scores at 6-0. Croydon looked far stronger than the result suggested and a quick half time pep talk gave them inspiration for a comeback. Croydon though would have to wait to start again as Rhiannon took her time going to the ladies room and recieved a round of applause when she returned. The visitors didn't start well as they seemed to still be laughing along and West London capitalised with an easy runner. At 7-0 Croydon could of let their heds drop but they were determined to score and Phil who was having a great game, intercepting and collecting well, scored from distance to finally open the visitors account. Croydon continued to attack well and Sean was finding space but was unable to find the basket, a quick word from Coach Dan Pratt about his technique and he was on his way again, the next time he got the ball he took the coaches advice and balanced himself for the shot sinking it from way downtown to bring the scores back to 7-2. West London were being shut down in defence and this was giving Croydon more possesion, they made it count after being awarded a free pass, Karen stepped up confidently and dispatched the free throw to continue Croydon's dominance. It didn;t stop there and Jon got on the scoreboard scoring from mid-distance to bring the scores to 7-4. Unfortunately for Croydon their comeback ended there and the hosts went onto score twice more with a running in shot and another dodgy penalty to leave the scores at 9-4. the full time whistle blew and the scores make it look a routine win for West London but the truth is it was much closer and Croydon were probably the better side on the day.Match Report by Sicknote Final Score: West London 2 9 vs 4 Croydon 4P Aish (1)J Dean (1)S Fellows (1)P Andrews (0)K James (1)S Hole (0)Z Shewell (0)R Williams-Clarke (0)Submitted by Sicknote on 13 Mar 08
