Croydon 4 unlucky to lose to Mitcham 3Croydon 4 went to Trinity to take on Mitcham 3. They started with Andy Burnham, Russell Comber, captain Hayley Rand and Sarah Hole in defence. Steve Chadd, Luke James, Zoë Shewell and Charlotte Feakins were given the responsibility of attacking first. Mitcham started the game and in the first attack they scored a running in shot to give the game its first goal. Mitcham followed it up soon after with a mid-distance shot to leave Croydon 2-0 down in the first few minutes. Croydon seemed to focus a little more and limited Mitcham's attack, this gave Croydon's own attackers more time with the ball and it paid off with Andy scoring a nice goal from behind the post. Croydon looked by far the more dominant team and had closed the Mitcham attack down completely, the attack were creating plenty of opportunities with Sarah and Andy working together well but unfortunately for the visitors the ball would not drop through the basket. Croydon had to wait a while but they levelled after some patient play with Andy getting his and Croydon's second of the game from the side of the post: 2-2. Croydon were looking to push on and had a few opportunities to take the lead but a mistake in defence led to a Mitcham penalty, which the hosts scored to regain the lead. Croydon were not going to fade away and a great long shot from youngster Luke brought the scores level again at 3-3. With the half winding down both sides looked to be settling for the half time scores level but a lapse in concentration let Mitcham score a drop off to take the lead again just before the whistle. At 4-3 Croydon were still in the game but needed to make sure they got off to a positive start in the second half. Croydon started the second half the same way they started the first and found themselves conceding two quick goals, one from short range and another from distance to see the hosts have the biggest lead of the game at 6-3. Mitcham were then closed down again and Croydon's attack had a lot of possession, they created a few chances but had to wait a while for Steve to score from long range to make it 6-4. In defence Croydon were bossing the game and making sure Mitcham could only have a short time with the ball. Unfortunately Croydon were unable to finish their chances with Andy missing from the spot to deny him a hat trick. Croydon thought they had scored again when Hayley got the ball in the basket from close in, only for it to be disallowed and the game came to a close with the scores staying at 6-4 to Mitcham.
