Croydon close out tough battle to reach EKA Cup Semi Finals
Croydon travelled to Cambridge to play Cambridge City in the EKA Cup ¼ final. Starting with Dan Zu Grace Julia in attack and Nigel Vernon Anna Susan in defence. Croydon conceded early in the 1st minute and gradually settled. Grace replied with a neat drop shot after 5 minutes. Croydon traded goals and conceded 2 penalties to make the score 5-5 after 15 minutes. Croydon called an early time-out that focussed the players and finished the half drawn at 7 all.
The 2nd half started well for the visitors with Vernon scoring twice past his opponent. Cambridge replied with a long shot that Grace cancelled out with one of her own, Croydon leading 10-8 with 20 to go. Zu conceded a free-pass converted by Cambridge, Susan responded with a running in shot quickly followed by a long shot from Zu. Croydon traded a couple of goals to lead 14-11 with 9 to go. Croydon held on with robust defence to win 14-13. Croydon now play in the Cup Final event at Whitgift School on Sunday 3rd April.
