Croydon 1 start strongly against Nomads 1

Croydon started well against a strong and patient Nomads team. Croydon scored first, but despite some good team work they couldn't keep up with the scoring strength of Nomads. It was playing to see that the Croydon goals came from many of the Croydon players and that they were well worked, whether they be long shots, runners or penalties.

The sections were, Omar, Withers, Driver and Jeanes in first attack, with captain Hudspith lining up with Ellis, Belfourd, and Stimpson.

James (Luke) came on for Hudspith with 5 minutes left of play and scored a long range goal which surprised the host as Luke himself (AKA Lake at his new job).

Croydon showed a marked improvement from their game agaisnt Trojans by increasing the amount of goals scored while also addressing the goals conceded.

Croydon 4 struggle against experienced opposition

Croydon started with Jon, Julie, David and Sarah in attack and Bryan, Kathy, Charlotte and Martin in defence. The only twist in this match came when Bryan (literally) hit the wall on his first touch when the game was about 15 seconds old and twisted his ankle. After that it was close for the first 15 minutes or so but then Nomads steadily pulled away.

After a few minutes of playing with 3 at one end, Luke came on to replace Bryan and the game settled down. Croydon played well and were getting shots up but frustratingly many just rolled around the rim. At half time the score was 6-2, with one other (dubiously) disallowed goal for Croydon.

In the second half Croydon sometimes lost concentration when playing out of defence, leading to some interceptions which proved costly. However, generally everyone played well taking plenty of shots, although unfortunately Nomads shots were more accurate.

Sarah's exertions around the goal were rewarded with a couple of goals (and another disallowed), but was blown up for an (even more dubious) penalty. Meanwhile, Martin and Luke also joined the scoresheet.

It was a good run out considering Croydon had 3 players who had never played before this season, and are a team who are still getting to know their patterns of play - it would be beneficial to try and keep the ends together and maybe do some work together in training.
