A familiar pattern set in on Sunday afternoon- Croydon were ahead at times but just could not keep their noses in front and ended up by losing by a couple of goals. Croydon started out with Steph, Adam, Jon and Julie in attack and with Bryan, Angie, David and Sarah in defence. Croydon scored first with Adam tucking one away from mid range, after some appalling misses from Jon, who glided past his player as though he wasn't there. Nomads responded but Sarah popped up at the other end to regain the advantage. Nomads pegged it back and then Steph scored 2 really solid goals from around 6m. That should have been the springboard for more goals but Nomads pegged them back again before Steph slotted another away from even further out. If I had been on the other team her unerring consistancy would have demoralised me, but the blighters bounced back with 2 goals, leaving Jon to abandon his running in shots and score from mid range to maintain parity. But nomads had the last goal of the half to go in 7-6 ahead. Galvanised by stirring words from the new permanent coach (Hannah), Croydon swapped goals with Nomads in the second half. First Bryan slotted one in from distance and Julie, who intercepted well all afternoon, got one from under the post. When Adam dropped off and scored from 3m the scores were level and there was everything to play for. David was bouncing around like Zebedee and Angie had a couple of efforts which didn't quite have the legs. Then Nomads scored 3 on the trot though and the game was over, bar a late running in shot from Jon. So lots of effort, lots of chances but not quite enough goals from this relatively new team who improve by the game. Well played everyone.
