Night-time Korf Doesn't Appeal To Croydon 4
Croydon 4ths went to Ernest Bevin for a mid week clash against Bec 6. Throw off was at 8-30pm but the whole team were there ready to go before 8pm. Unfortunately their warm up ball was a bit flat and didn't bounce. Equally unfortunately the Mitcham ref didn't show so at 8-35pmm the game started with a Bec player kindly standing in.
Croydon started with Adam, Julie Jon and Kathy in attack with Susie, Charlotte, David and Phil in defence Both teams had a few chances in the first 10 mins but none went in but then the floodgates opened and Bec pulled away to score nine goals to which Jon replied with a single running in shot.
The spirit was still good though and after some self analysis at half time Croydon went out determined to do better. Phil pulled one back with a medium range shot and had a couple of others roll around the basket. Then Kathy pulled an interesting trick-she pretended to get a ball full in the face and recovered quickly after the sympathy interlude to pass directly to Jon and score a running in shot by return. Two goals without reply and Croydon had their tails up... but it was not to last. Bec scored 5 in the second half before Adam got a well desrved goal from mid range close to the end.
Everyone tried really hard and Julie did especially well returning after injury. However, one pattern emerged that Bec frequently had several phases to their attack by getting the collect whilst Croydon's attacks were generally much shorter-something to work on at training tonight?....where is everybody?
