Croydon 1 not out-classed by Norwich KnightsCroydon lined up with familiar sections for lower table clash, with Mills returning to the line up for the injurred Munshi. Croydon bucked the recent trend of slow starts, matching Knights with some good attacking korfball. After 20 mins the score stood at 7-5 to Knights and the game was still on. However, as Knights picked up their shooting accuracy with Vogwill particularly dangerous, Croydon went the other way and with 15 mins to play Croydon were 18-6 down. Croydon continued to try and play and work hard and matched Knightsa for the last 15 mins, finishing 11-24. Croydon will be looking for a full 60 mins vs Bearstead next week and and as first win of the season. Martin chose 1st attack for his section of Becky, Mark and Vicky leaving defence of Ben, Emma, Ian and myself. The slow start was fast at first as Highbury scored their penalty, I think Ben was too enthusiastic and that was about in the first minute! The ball then generally stayed with our attack but they just couldn't score. Martin after his long shots managed to score with a running in, game on! It stayed like that for 15 minutes of stale mate, they scored again. My section were awarded a penalty tut tut Ian who missed BUT maybe it's because Emma's player had shouted get ready for the rebound - the cheek! Things like that always make me play better so what a surprise Ian had collected his rebound passed to me and I scored from about 4m.The game then went back to who will score with very good defence and missing the basket until Martin scored from 3m just at Half time giving us the lead for the first time. Our half time talk was that we could do this Mark's section needed to relax with shots and continue with tight defence Ian I think was going to try to stay at the post but eek I don't remember and come out as and when needed. I think half time was our key as we all came out ready, Mark scored from 5m, all change, I scored a running in shot, Highbury got a running in shot but to continue with Croydon goals Mark scored again, Martin scored his free throw, Ben decided to try a running in. Highbury did a quick attempt at come back with 2 goals but Martin scored again and the icing on the cake was Ian scoring from feed. It was a grand game of all working together, Becky could've scored if given the ball when she was free, Vicky had her chances too including when Martin (naughty boy) should've gone to collect Martin and Mark are always good bets for goals. Our section usual of Ian and Ben being outstanding BUT this week I think Emma really played well as her girl was lead attack and never got passed her, woo hoo! Thanks Jon for my match facts! First attack was SarahW Keri David and Phil. First defence was Mike, Charlotte, Julie and Jon. Trojans started brightly and went 3 up before Croydons first response and they kept their noses in front the whole game but there was never a lot of daylight between the teams. Croydon were defending well and were being creative in attack. It was really encouraging that 6 of the team got on the scoresheet, including a goal from Sarah which didn't even hit the rim. At half time it was 7-3 or thereabouts so the second half was pretty even and goals were going in more frequently. David defended Luke well but nonetheless he got 5 goals and at the other end the Croydon girls couldn't contain Jess Turner who got 6. A good solid all round performance though and Croydon never let their heads drop. A good start to the new year.Match Report by JonD Final Score: Croydon 4 10 vs 15 Trojans 3M Lockett (3)P Aish (2)D Hughes (2)J Dean (0)C Feakins (1)J Green (1)S Withers (1)K Akif (0)Submitted by JonD on 06 Jan 13
