3rds slow to start but comfortable win in the end

First attack was Ben, Pete, Emma & Sunday off work Mandy leaving defence of Mark Martin Vicki and Beccy.

We started scoring straight away Peter I drop off to the side. Then Mandy, scored from feed. All change to the section where Nomads had a boy short. Mark Decided Martin would be the scoring boy Leaving him to run around and do everything else. Martin's longshots were going nowhere, Was this because brother Luke was watching again! Eventually Martin scored and can believe it a running in shot? I was impressed with Becky who put into practice what we were doing in training, Unfortunately she missed scoring stepping out from the feed. But good thinking as that section seemed to working hard for no goals. Eek we gave away penalty 3-1 all change.

By now i was getting worried as we didn't seem to be playing with ease, Ben all eager and not seeming to flow. Then marvelous piece of play, Pete gave then a long diagonal pass from front to back corner as Ben free, as his defender stretched Mandy stepped in to feed, Ben stormed in for a beautiful running in shot.

This is where I mention the ref, Our very own Andy who decided to spice things up! Not only did he get so close to the action in our defense he let the ball rebound off him into Nomads hands but then he allowed the goal (which was a goal but thought I'd point out the fact). The one Nomads boy scored a goal against our two boys!! eeek I was beginning to worry Martin hurt his fingers, Beccy was missing running shots after all that effort. Defense were solid but someone had to score.... Yeah Martin Half time 5 - 3 and the Nomads player arrives oo la la

An even playing field and shots in all directions. Pete scores due to the faith of his section as all of them were under the post for his long shot. Our attack were pressuring out if they lost the ball but just missing shots. A woo hoo here as Emma put up a shot and another but Pete with a shimmy scores a running in! By now the team had settled and Martin was finding the basket with his long shots. Mark threw a lovely ball to Ben for a running in and Ben with both boys marking casually passes to Pete who scores! Martin took a penalty and with his section told to look for the girls the final whistle blows 11 - 4

So not all the bad spelling not adjusted as enough finger tapping but well done well done well done

Ben - fabulous energy, silly defended shots stopped and dedication of running into wall
Emma - yes! You took shots in a game and great collecting at the post
Mandy - of course you still have it, gets a goal but how many danced around the basket?
Pete - another goal feast from all ranges
Beccy - how could you not score? All the running in shots it will come but fab for trying training move
Mark - everywhere and everything high five for job well done MVP
Martin - eventually you found the basket 5? You know Simon's not happy!
Vicky - sterling defense, try as might your girl was not gonna be free to put up a shot

Now done really good effort and pieces of play x

Croydon 4 fire but just miss out on a win

Croydon 4 were ready and rearing to go, all warmed up and looking to get started! Unfortunately they were still waiting for the ref to turn up! No worries tho as Ben stepped up to fill the roll.

Croydon started with Sarah W, David, Phil and Kerry in attack, leaving Jon D, Charlotte, Julie and Mike in defence. Play started quickly with everyone trying hard to get the first goal. Sadly it was Nomads that scored first, altho a small mix up saw Nomads awarded 10 goals for scoring just the one! Problem quickly solved by Becky Dean. David was all over the shop looking to level things and did so with a nicely taken drop off. 1-1. Charlotte was controlling the collect and looked like a demon grabbing any ball that came off a shot! Jon took advantage of the extended attacks and scored the next goal from a great turn in feed. 2-1. The lead was short lived as nomads scored from the penalty they were awarded. Croydon started to really get into the swing of things and just didn't want to take their foot off the gas! Sarah found herself in loads of space and scored a great long shot. 3-2. With time winding down the goals started to flow. Nomads player Terry Forde couldn't help himself when it came to scoring but Mike wanted some of the action too and scored to give Croydon the lead. But again Nomads pulled it back. Sarah kept working her player hard and earned and scored a penalty. And again dispite the Croydon defence working hard nomads still managed to level the score 5-5. Julie was chasing any lose ball and to prove she was hard core she chased a ball to the back line but sadly her player was going for the ball as well an when Julie tried to pass it back to someone in her team she managed to get her marker square on in the face! Everyone knew that time was against them and that a lead going into the half would be important. Terry Ford wanted it to be his team so scored a tricky runner to bring us into a break 5-6 nomads.

Becky Dean had a few wise words at half time and asked for people to communicate when their players were in the feed or at the post as this seemed to be lacking in the first half. Meanwhile Simon managed to make it from his earlier reffing commitment and took control of the game. Thanks for the cover Ben, you did great!!

Nomads came out after half time looking to extend their lead and did so when they got a free pass. Terry Forde again stepped up and converted. 5-7 to nomads. Phil was told at half time that he needed to keep Terry busy and to take him away from all the action and with this Phil started getting his shots off and managed to scored from mid range. 6-7. Play again turned to "as you scored, so will we" 6-8. Jon wanted the win and was working his socks off just to try and get the next important goal and he did. He found himself free under the post and slotted home his second of the day! 7-8 time was once again ticking down and Croydon were awarded a free pass which Charlotte calmly stepped up to take it but the ball just missed. Once again Terry scored to give nomads a two goal lead . With less then a minute to go Sarah won and converted her penalty to bring Croydon back within one! However time was against them and the final whistle went and Nomads came out with the points 8-9.

The team worked at 110% the whole game and never let the fact that there were playing against a couple of experienced players bother them. It was a pleasure watching the game and the smiles on everyone's faces at the end. Next week they have a well deserved break. Good luck in your remaining fixtures and keep up all the good work!

(Phil) I would just like to add that I seem to be flying in 2 of the 3 pictures. Well timed whoever took them. :)
