Croydon see off the Welsh dragons from Cardiff city

The start of the second day, and the results were wide open. With a mixture of Welsh internationals and more experienced hands the Oxford, Wales and West regional league champions were not to be taken lightly. Coach Jeanes had been watching earlier games and had a clear strategy in place.

Captain Nigel Hudspith took Janeu, Grace and Ross in his end, and Andy and Anna teamed up again with Susan and Vernon.

Cardiff seemed to alter their tactics and were much tighter in defence than in previous games. Croydon picked this up quickly, and went back to their more familiar style.

Although the result never felt in doubt, with goals spread throughout the team. Nevertheless, the Welsh team demonstrated some good moves and scored some good goals to keep the game competitive.

Croydon clinical against London rivals

Croydon wanted a clean sweep and so even though their future was decided, there was no lack of determination going into the game. No changes were made to the starting line up, and although the bench was itching to make its mark coach Jeanes went with the 8 players who had achieved success so far for his final game in charge.

In recent history marches between Highbury and Croydon have been close fought battles, but this was different. As Croydon settled Highbury struggled, and the boys in particular dominated in the post and the scoring and pulled away.

This final game was a fitting tribute to Jeanes' 4 seasons in charge. The team celebrated the victory, and felt satisfied that they had won the right to play In the top level of korfball competition next season.
