Croydon 4 fought hard to get level with Highbury 4With a full team eventually sorted Croydon 4 met up at Millwall to take on Highbury 4. The game started with Pete, Craig, Emma and Katie in first attack with David, Paul, Jess and Jocelyn in defence. The game started relatively slowly but Highbury's team were used to playing together and worked as a unit to quickly sink 2 goals in succession. All change. Shortly Croydon had a chance with a free pass thanks to a well worked build up, unfortunately Croydon were not able to take advantage. Highbury then picked up a third goal. With a sinking feeling, Croydon 4 kept their heads up and plugged away rewarded with a lovely goal from Jess. All change again and with renewed vigour Croydon began to work together trying to make space for each other and were rewarded by another goal from Pete. Not to be out done Highbury came back with another goal due to some over considerate marking from David who gave his opponent to much of an opportunity allowing him to make a rather splendid long range shot which passed seamlessly through the korf. All change once more. In response to his lazy defending David made up for it sinking 2 goals in succession to bring the score level 4-4. I think this was half time when Paul came off to rest his shoulder as it had taken a battering and was replaced by Joe. The second half seemed to on for ever as there was only two changes with both teams attacking with multiple collects, with Pete's height and experience benefitting his section Emma and Craig were able to work hard along with Katie to create multiple shooting opportunities sadly none proving goal worthy against a very attentive defence. At the other section I must say a slightly easier task for the boys, Jess and Jocelyn had to work excessively hard against what proved to be very experienced girls. Despite all the hard work by Croydon, Highbury scored 2 more goals without reply. Changing ends Croydon worked really hard to give David an opportunity to shot and score the last of Croydon's goals with Highbury sinking a penalty shortly after everyone changed for the last time with both teams defending well to the final whistle leaving the full time score 7-5 in Highbury's favour. We must take heart that at least 4 goals were disallowed but non the less they went in. Once again many thanks to everyone. As usual if anyone has anything to add just do it!
