Croydon 1 take easy win over under-strength Nomads 3Croydon 1 headed to Epsom full of confidence after a good start to the season. They faced a somewhat understrength Nomads 3 team, which was reflected in the scoreline. Coach Boys asked his team to play their normal style of play and work to score good goals. The team took his words of wisdom on board, and kept a near-normal style where the ball did the work, and the goals followed. Excellent collection around the post enabled the ball to be recycled as necessary and fine post work kept the Nomads players busy. Croydon players took full advantage of the weakened opposition team, ensuring that the goals were spread out around the team, with every player (who wasn't subbed / a sub) scoring at least one goal. Just before half time Pratt (B) was replaced by Jeanes, and later in the 2nd half, Omar and Ellis came on for Hudspith and Withers. Jeanes, Ellis and Stevens were joined by Campbell whilst at the other end, Gooch and Withers joined Omar and Elliot. The first few goals were traded by both teams, and it looked like being a tight match from the start. Croydon 2 struggled to find their shape though and under pressure from key Nomads players, they didn't find the basket often enough, despite a number of shots seeming to go in and bounce out again. It wasn't all one way traffic but Nomads 2 pulled ahead and kept their lead. Croydon 2 kept up a tight defence, with Omar in particular making a number of intercepts to turn the ball over. There was distinct promise in the team; with both Gooch and Stevens not looking out of place and showing glimpses of what they will be capable of with practise and training.
