Croydon 3 take the win against Highbury 2

With a full team and subs CKC 3 took on Highbury 2. A very late dash by me, totally messing up with start time and get there time but everyone threw on a top and the game began with first attack Anna, Charlotte, Mark and Martin leaving defence of Alex, Dom, Sarah and I.

Highbury scored first with an awarded penalty and here I confess that I didn't pick up the lovely piece of paper sub Ed made of all the match details. Charlotte not 100% felt her back pull so she came off and step up Vicky to play another game. (Thank you thank you) Goals were traded but an early highlight was Sarah stepping up to take our allocated free throw scoring after Simon had blown his whistle that she had to take it again... but we're talking Sarah and yes she scored even better as it went straight in! Highbury were looking the stronger side marking ball lines and getting lots of interceptions but Croydon still plugged on.

All in all, we had some lovely pieces of play, switching between players fluently, goals goals and goals. MPV went to Martin 6 in total woo hee!! not bad from a night before call up (I do hope you are better soon Ed and thanks for subbing). Doms goals in our section saved our bacon nice and sneeky runner which I do think put the defending boys off their game.

Proud of you all for sorting out and playing with determination that carried us on to win. Effort made by everyone and we should all be pleased, Charlotte thanks for giving your back a try and I hope you get better soon x

Croydon 4 celebrate Jon's return with superb team play

This is going to be a very short match report, with not much detail, as my recall this week is non existent.
With the welcome and much needed return of Jon D to Croydon 4 the team continued where Dirk left us, acting as a team. As you can see from the score sheet the 12 goals were shared by all and all worked together to create the space and collects for prolonged attacks. The first attack section started off with well worked goals reciprocated by the next phase, with shots going up from both sections in well thought out and calculated purpose with collects being exceptionally effective particularly in the second half where there were prolonged attack phases giving the other section a much needed rest. New things were being tried which worked sometimes but I do applaud the confidence in those players to try new things.
Everyone (a part from one who shall remain nameless for fear of reprisals from Paul J next Thursday) deserved MVP for their team play and support, giving, attacking, defending and covering so thank you everyone but I have MVP to Paul who scored a great goal and backed up the rest of his section really well, having the break on Thursday had its benefits.
A well deserved victory 12-6 to Croydon the next one will be tough but if we play like we did today it will be a close match.

If you have any amendments/additions please look at post on the 4th TEAM tab before you do.

A bit of needle in Croydon 5 Highbury 3 match

With Wendy at A and E due to treading on a sewing needle earlier in the morning and two others sidelined due to injury the game had to be played as a development game. Highbury were very physical and took their chances well. Some good shooting from distance from Pete and Steve kept Croydon in the game for a while but Highbury 3 look a very strong side.

Georgie is back but Swans still can't beat Bec!

With Walsh out injured, Swans were pleased to welcome back Tom George who must be commended for his commitment in coming all the way from the Isle of White. Sections were reshuffled for the day with White, Bracey Lane, Green and McDanell in first attack leaving Sturgess, Galloway, Smith and George in defence.

Bec always start brightly against the Swans and today was no exception. They were 0-1 up early on but a well executed long range shot from White levelled the score. Unfortunately there were no other Swans goals to report on in the first half as the well organised Bec side pressured in defence and scored a further 6 to end the half 1-7.

The score didn't really do the Swans justice as they built some very well structured attacks. The second half saw more of the same and coach Walsh was delighted to see the team drawing on things they have worked on in training. Green found a good feed position and White dispatched a good runner. Bec got a few more but unlike the first half the Swans stayed with them in terms of scoring goals. At Smiths end they changed things up with the boys working the post and the girls looking to run their opponents. This worked well as Sturgess created three good chances eventually burying the third one.

A few more Bec goals then Smith sank one from 5 metres to bring an end to proceedings 4-13. Despite losing by 9 there were a number of positives to take from the game! McDanell and Green shared collect and feed duties at one end while Galloway and Sturgess looked threatening in attack and kept their girls quiet! Bracey-Lane continues to show real promise and George slotted in well and looked like he hadn't been away! Smith worked hard all game and just missed out on MVP and White took the MVP for an excellent display in leading the team!

Congratulations all and bring on Trojans next week!
